27 November 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – The National Nutrition Council (NNC) X conferred a special award to 40 local government units (LGU). These LGUs consistently decreased their stunting prevalence among 0-59 months old children in their locality. The award was based on the Operation Timbang (OPT) Plus reports submitted to the regional office for the year 2018-2020.
This year is the third time that the NNC X recognizes the LGUs for their nutrition efforts which resulted in the reduction of stunting prevalence. Stunting or low height-for-age is a chronic form of malnutrition. It is an impaired growth and development resulting from poor nutrition, inadequate psychosocial stimulation, and repeated infection.
