DRAFT Infographics Orientation Meeting with ARBOs15 December 2021, Cagayan de Oro City- As the Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program (TK DSP) is nearing to its kickoff in Lanao del Norte, Provincial Nutrition Focal Point Lizelle L. Bete took the lead to visit Barangay Calube Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC), lead Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organization (ARBO) for Phase III TK DSP.

Last 6 December 2021, an orientation was held with Brgy. Calube MPC together with the staff from Department of Agrarian Reform Provincial Office of Lanao del Norte. This was conducted at the ARBO’s office in Sultan Naga Dimaporo, and facilitated by PNFP Bete.

The meeting highlights include the presentation of the approved Request for Quotation (RFQ) that is for review in National Nutrition Council -Central Office (NNC-CO), discussion of required documents to be secured once the delivery will commence, discussion of the Marketing Agreement (MA) between Brgy. Calube MPC and NNC-X and updates of ARBOs in Phase IV Tutok Kainan DSP.

This is a novena (nine-day series) of dawn Masses from 16th to 24th of December in anticipation of Christmas. This year, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Filipinos still find ways to celebrate and continue Christmas traditions. Beautiful parols hung in every home, Christmas lights brighten every place; songs of the season can be heard everywhere and most importantly families, friends and even individuals still find their way of going to the nearest church to attend the nine-day novena while observing minimum health protocols. With these, vendors of various kakanin await the mass goers for delicacies like biko, kalamay, sapin-sapin, palitaw, pitsi-pitsi, puto bumbong, puto, bibingka, kutsinta, and suman outside the church.

But before you indulge yourselves with the different kakanins that await you in this season and especially every after attending the Simbang Gabi, let’s get to know first these kakanins and its nutrition information.

Article Nutrition Planning Workshop13 December 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – The local government units (LGUs) of Initao, Medina and Talisayan, Misamis Oriental participated in a face-to-face workshop facilitated by the National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region X, which was held 6-7 December 2021 at Sophie Red Hotel, Jasaan, Misamis Oriental.

The activity is part of the ongoing provision of technical assistance to LGUs to beef up local plans and budgets for improved nutrition outcomes.

A total of 12 participants attended the workshop composed of Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) members, of which the Nutrition Division of LGU Misamis Oriental and the Nutritionist-Dietitians under the Human Resource for Health (HRH) of the Department of Health also acted as facilitators.

In his Opening Remarks, Kagawad on Health Melchor “Roy” Corrales of LGU Medina expressed his hopes that the workshop will be able to help them improve their Local Nutrition Action Plan (LNAP) so they will be able to help better their constituents.

Article NAOs General Assembly15 December 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – The Nutrition Action Officers Association of the Philippines, Inc.-Northern Mindanao Chapter and the National Nutrition Council Region X convened the Region 10 Provincial/City/Municipal Nutrition Action Officers for its annual General Assembly. This was held 10 December 2021 via Zoom. There were 39 participants who attended the virtual assembly.

In his Opening Remarks, NAOPA, Inc. NM Chapter President Elmer S. Risonar, CNAO of Gingoog City that the association continues to advocate for the creation of plantilla position for NAOs. “This year is our biggest chance and biggest challenge of making NAOs’ item into a permanent position and to lobby per LGU for the creation of nutrition office in the limelight of nutrition devolution by virtue of Executive Order 138,” he said. CNAO Risonar called on to his fellow NAOs that they will continue to act and advocate for nutrition to forward the nutrition agenda.

The program proceeded with the discussion on “Opportunities for Strengthened Nutrition Programs: Good Practices of LGUs with Approved Proposals on the Establishment of Nutrition Office and Hiring of Personnel”. PNAO Marichu G. Tijing of Misamis Occidental and MNAO Christy Marie V. Alsado were the resource persons for the topic, sharing the good practices that they did to beef up management support for nutrition.

FINALLYYY Article Photo NorMIN RST Orientation smgt ljdrupload9 December 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – The Northern Mindanao’s Mentoring Initiative for Nutrition (NorMIN) Regional Shepherding Team (RST) convened last 3 December 2021 via video teleconferencing. The team, formerly known as “Region 10 LGU Mentoring Team”, was reorganized following the directives of National Nutrition Council in institutionalizing the Shepherding Initiative.

The orientation was attended by 17 RST members and representatives from the Regional Nutrition Committee Technical Working Group (RTWG) and select awardee LGUs.

The activity objectives include the following: 1) to orient members of the RST re the Nutrition Shepherding project, 2) to clarify the roles and responsibilities of shepherding team, and 3) to identify potential local government units (LGUs) for shepherding and next steps for the project.

Nutrition Program Coordinator Gladys Mae S. Fernandez gave an Opening Message and explained to the group the overview of the activity. She also informed the new members that the initiative has been implemented in the region since 2016.

32 Meeting and Planning Workshop13 December 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – National Nutrition Council X organized the Media Advocates for Nutrition in Governance in Region 10 (MANGO DIEZ) third meeting and its first ever Virtual Planning Workshop last 10 December 2021. A total of 14 media partners attended the meeting, which was presided over by the Ad hoc Committee Chairperson, Ms. Jasper Marie O. Rucat, Information Officer II of Philippine Information Agency 10.

The workshop was held to identify the group's key actions in implementing the 2022 the Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) plan, as well as identify best practices from Local Government Units (LGUs), with focus on local nutrition promotion initiatives, and provide recommendations from the group on how to improve the promotion of good nutrition through various platforms in this pandemic.
