28 2021 RNAC Awardees Nutrition Month Contests29 November 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – The Nutrition Month Celebration with its theme: “Malnutrisyon patuloy na labanan, First 1000 Days tutukan!” enabled yet again another venue to gather more nutrition advocates through the contests: I-Flex mo si Nanay Photo Contest and First 1000 Days Short Filmmaking Contest: Level-up!

The National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region X recognized and awarded the winners during the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony last 18 November 2021. The short filmmaking was done with NNC X’s media network, while the photo contest was in partnership with Oro Photographic Society (OPS) and JCI Bai Lawanen.

Article Regional Dialogue with PBs1 December 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – A total of 2,113 guests, speakers, and participants joined the Regional Dialogue with Punong Barangays: Enabling Nutrition Devolution held on 23-24 November 2021 via Zoom and Facebook Live. Through this activity, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) X convened Punong Barangays (PBs), Barangay Council and Barangay Nutrition Committee (BNC) members, Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), and other health and nutrition workers in provinces, cities, municipalities, and barangays.

Director Arnel M. Agabe, CESO III of the Department of the Interior and Local Government Region X opened the program. Dir. Agabe called on the PBs and Barangay Officials to prioritize nutrition being the leaders in the barangay level. “The barangay may be the smallest unit of the government, but you as the barangay officials play the most important role in ensuring that we achieve the goals of our country. These goals are to provide basic services to all Filipinos for them to live a secure, healthy and peaceful lives,” the director added.

On the other hand, NNC Assistant Secretary and Executive Director Azucena M. Dayanghirang, MD, MCH, CESO III underscored the effects of good nutrition, which will bring better opportunities for the children in terms of health, intelligence, social adaptation, and productivity.

Approved TK DSP Buk PW NS monitoring infographics26 November 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – As part of the monitoring of Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program (TK DSP) Phase I implementation, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator (RNPC) Gladys Mae S. Fernandez and Provincial Nutrition Focal Point (PNFP) Gwyn Y. Balaba paid a visit to select barangays in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

RNPC Fernandez, along with PNFP Balaba, City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO) Eza Canonigo and City Nutrition Program Coordinator (CNPC) Rhea Bantulan made an appearance to Barangays Linabo and St. Peter.

In the course of surveillance, they witnessed the hot meals being prepared, distributed, and consumed by the pregnant women recipients. Marvil Opindo, one of the beneficiaries in Brgy. St. Peter, expressed her gratitude towards the program, "Mapasalamaton ko’g dako kay naa gyu’y maayong kabag-ohan sa akong lawas kay underweight ko sauna ug sukad naapil ko sa programa, na normal na akong timbang ug normal usab ang timbang sakong baby pag-anak" (I am grateful for the program because there were significant improvements in my health from being underweight to normal weight gain and for my baby’s normal weight after birth), she said, referring to the TK DSP.

Article 2021 RNAC Awardees RWebby Awarads1 December 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – This year is the second year of holding the Regional Nutri-Webby Awards by the National Nutrition Council (NNC) X. The objective of which is to recognize Social Media Pages managed by local nutrition committees or offices that have highly visible and exemplar initiatives in promoting good nutrition for positive behavior change through posting of relevant contents in the social media.

A total of 18 Facebook Pages were registered for the contest. Analytics were monitored since February until October 2021. Winners and finalists were announced during the 2021 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) last 18 November 2021.

Article PNAO National Evaluation26 November 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – Misamis Occidental’s Provincial Nutrition Action Officer (PNAO) Marichu G. Tijing is one of the three contenders in the country vying for the national award for PNAO of the Year. PNAO Tijing was evaluated by the National Evaluation Team (NET) last 22-23 November 2021.

Ms. Ma. Cynthia B. Vengco of the National Nutrition Council (NNC) served as the team leader of the NET, with members Dr. Marivic S. Samson (NNC) and Ms. Iris Rowena Bernardo of Council of Deans and Heads of Nutrition and Dietetics (CODHEND) and Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP). Assisting from the NNC Regional Office were Nutrition Program Coordinator Gladys Mae S. Fernandez and Nutrition Officer Sheena Marie G. Talle.

The NET facilitated the two-day assessment and undertook the following activities: courtesy call/opening program with PNAO Tijing and the Provincial Nutrition Committee, interview, desk review of documents, brief meeting with Governor Philip T. Tan, and discussion for learning and action.

Infographics Advocacy Meeting on TK DSP smgt01 December 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – As the Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program (TK DSP) is on its way to Lanao del Norte Province, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) X gathered more support for the program.

Last 26 November 2021, NNC X through Nutrition Program Coordinator Gladys Mae S. Fernandez and Provincial Nutrition Focal Point Lizelle L. Bete paid a visit to the local chief executives (LCEs) of Baroy and Lala, Lanao del Norte to advocate for Tutok Kainan DSP.

During the dialogue with Mayor Rosa D. Olafsson of LGU Baroy, committed that the LGU will provide support to TK DSP through transportation expenses to be incurred by the recipient barangays, and provision of funds for the sustainability of the program. She also confirmed and recognized the importance of providing health and nutrition interventions during the first 1000 days of life. Present during the advocacy meeting with Baroy were Ms. Cherry Pina E. Lisondra of the Nutritionist Dietitian Deployment Project (NDDP) of the Department of Health and Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS Marcela Rocaberte.
