OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental – Forty-three undernourished children belonging to the Subanen tribe are now seeing hope of leading healthier lives after the Provincial Nutrition Committee of Misamis Occidental initiated an intervention to address wasting, stunting and underweight cases prevailing in the area.
“… We are so blessed that we are now benefiting from this nutrition program,” a father of a Subanen child told the team of the Provincial Nutrition Office (PNO) that visited Barangay Kanowanan in January this year. The malnourished Subanen children were identified during the second round of Operation Timbang Plus conducted in Kanowanan in December 2015.

The year 2015 marks a splendid nutrition achievement for the National Nutrition Council Region 10 (NNC X) as three local government units in Northern Mindanao bagged national awards given by the National Nutrition Council of the Philippines.
Gingoog City, Municipality of Maramag and Valencia City join 19 other LGUs in the Philippines as recipients of the national nutrition awards for their commendable pursuits of Nutrition Excellence. Gingoog City will be awarded as Consistent Regional Outst anding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN), Municipality of Maramag, Bukidnon for the Second Year CROWN Maintenance Award, and Valencia City as the latest Nutrition Honor Awardee in Region 10.

The Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental is all set to undertake a province-wide training on Nutrition in Emergencies (NiEm) in October 26-28, 2016 and a dialogue with the NorMin Bantay Asin Task Force in November. Both activities are part of the scaling up nutrition improvement for the Misamisnons.
Attending the three-day NiEm training are the Nutrition Action Officers and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers of the 20 municipalities of MisOcc. Aside from management of nutrition services during disasters and emergencies, the participants will be initially formulating their Local Nutrition in Emergencies Plans. It is expected that the NiEm Plans will serve as inputs to the updating of the DRR Enhanced Development Plans of the Province and the Municipalities.

The National Nutrition Council – Region 10 will honor the Best Nutrition Program Implementing LGU’s in Northern Mindanao for the year 2015. Exemplary Local Government Units will be recognized during the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) slated November 25, 2016 here in Cagayan de Oro City.
The event is anchored on the continuing campaign by NNC-X to encourage LGU’s to take part in its crusade to reduce, if not eliminate, malnutrition in region 10.
“Every LGU looks forward to the holding of the RNAC, second to July Nutrition Month, being an annual milestone which not only serves as a venue for recognizing the efforts of local government units in nutrition program management but of showcasing good practices on nutrition worthy of replication”, says NNC X Nutrition Program Coordinator Marissa D.M. Navales.

More participants are expected to submit entries for the 2017 Nutrition Month Theme Writing and Logo Design Contest as local government units and schools including the higher education institutions forged commitment to disseminate information about the competition.
With the collaboration of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG X), Department of Education (DepEd X) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) X, the National Nutrition Council is expecting for the entries the 2017 Nutrition Month Theme Writing and Logo Design Contest to swell.
On October 5, 2016, DILG Regional Director (RD) Arnel M. Agabe issued a directive to Provincial and City directors to disseminate the contest mechanics to all local government units in Region X.

Misamis Occidental, Gingoog City and Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon have a thousand and one reasons to celebrate after being declared as Nutrition Bests in Northern Mindanao by the Regional Nutrition Committee X.
These outstanding performers in nutrition were declared following the issuance of RNC X Resolution No. 4 series of 2016 "Confirming the Results and Ranking of the 2015 MELLPI" as endorsed by the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET).
The same resolution also confirmed Guinsiliban, Camiguin and Tudela, Misamis Occidental as Outstanding Municipalities in Nutrition of their respective provinces. 36 barangays, on the other hand, were declared as Regional Green Banner Barangays.
