Ozamiz CityTimbang Iwasto sa Tamang Nutrisyon at Ehersisyo” is the 2015 Nutrition Month theme which aims to increase awareness on the role and importance of proper nutrition and physical activity in the prevention of Overweight and Obesity.

To give support to the Nutrition Month celebration, Hon. Reynaldo O. Parojinog, Sr. signed and issued on June 30, 2015 Executive Order No. 030-15 “Enjoining all Government Agencies and Public and Private Schools from Elementary to Tertiary levels in Ozamiz City to recite the 10 Kumainments during their Flag Raising Ceremonies for the Whole Month of July”

To highlight the City celebration, City Nutrition Committee in collaboration with the City Health Office, the Department of Education- Ozamiz City Division and National Nutrition Council Region X conducted a Nutrition Advocacy Conference for all School Administrators and Heads of Offices held July 8, 2015 at the Johann’s Cuisine, Bañadero Highway, Ozamiz City to give emphasis on the significance of proper nutrition and physical activity among school children, high school students and even college.

Region X ROBNSThe Search for 2014 Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (ROBNS) of Northern Mindanao is finally completed. Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) chaired by Ms. Telesfora G. Madelo finally declares Ms. Vivian T. Ochotorena of Barangay Tongantongan, Valencia City as the 2014 ROBNS of Northern Mindanao. Ms. Ochotorena garnered the highest final score of 98.6 % and bested among the other seven contenders from the Provinces of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental and Cities of Gingoog, Malaybalay, Ozamiz and Tangub.

The RNET visited eight (8) regional contenders last May 8 – June 9, 2015. Each contender was evaluated based on performance Criteria (50%), Validation Criteria (40%) and BNS Exam (10%).

The search for 2014 ROBNS of Region 10 aims to assess the performance of BNSs in terms of their contribution to nutrition program implementation and improvement of nutritional status in the barangay and identify the strengths and weaknesses of the performance of BNSs. srdc

ro10 evaluation outstanding bns startsCAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, June 4 - The National Nutrition Council (NNC) X opens anew the Search for the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (ROBNS) for year 2014.

Eight contenders coming from the cities of Ozamiz, Tangub, Gingoog, Malaybalay and Valencia; Provinces of Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon and Camiguin are vying for the title.

All these were chosen and endorsed by their respective Provincial and City Nutrition Committee.

The Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) X, also represented by member national line agencies and religious sector representative started visiting and evaluating the performance of the BNSs, testing their skills, doing interviews, written examinations as well as document review.

This is done to validate the nomination and determine how adept and effective the BNS is in doing her job.

NNC X Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Marissa DM Navales said they also arrange dialogues with the Barangay Nutrition Committee (BNC) during their visits to assess how determined and engaged the BNC is in their local nutrition program.

The search aims not only to commend the BNS for their relentless effort in stomping malnutrition, but also to stage innovative ideas that can be replicated in other areas.

Regional winners will receive trophy and more P20, 000 cash award, and will compete for the national OBNS award. (JCV/RTWG X/PIA10)

ro10 oroquieta city gears up niOroquieta City is currently hammering efforts for the passage of the OROQUIETA CITY COMPREHENSIVE NUTRITION PROGRAM ORDINANCE to address the increasing problem of malnutrition in the City. Authored by Hon. Jesselie Borbon, Chairperson of the Committee on Health, the ordinance aims to put in place a comprehensive nutrition program to improve child and maternal nutritional status and appropriating funds for its implementation of the comprehensive program. The ordinance contains strong provisions on ensuring the functionality of the City Nutrition Committee as well as in monitoring the results of program implementation. The proposed ordinance also highlights the need to help the people of Oroquieta City enjoy their right to good nutrition.

In a meeting held between NNC X and City Mayor Jason P. Almonte, the City Mayor confirmed the hiring of a full time City Nutrition Program Coordinator to strengthen the coordination of implementation of the City Nutrition Program. The City Council, on the other hand, will put at the discussion table the creation of a separate Nutrition Office with nutrition staff after the passage of the City Ordinance on Nutrition.

A total of 21 Barangay Nutrition Scholars from Northern Mindanao received the Longest-Serving BNS Award during the 3rd National Conference of Barangay Nutrition Scholars-Mindanao Cluster held at KCC, General Santos City on April 28-29, 2015. The Service Award and cash reward were presented by Assistant Secretary of Health and NNC Executive Director IV Maria-Bernardita T. Flores.

Of the 21 Northern Mindanao awardees, BNS Levy S. Daayata of San Simon, Cagayan de Oro City emerged as the “pioneer “ or “legend” in BNS work having served CdeO for 36 years. The other awardees are from Bukidnon (3); Misamis Occidental (4), Misamis Oriental (2); Cagayan de Oro City (6); Iligan City (4) and Ozamiz City (1). For the Mindanao Cluster, Northern Mindanao has the most number of BNS awardees.

The Longest-Serving BNS Award is given to BNSs who have served for a minimum of 30 years.
