The Nutrition Action Officers Association of the Philippines, Incorporated (NAOPA, Inc) Northern Mindanao Chapter elected new set of officers for 2014-2016 last September 18, 2014 during the Association’s Third Quarter Meeting at Mindy’s Restaurant, Cagayan de Oro City.
Mr. Elmer P. Risonar, Nutrition Action Officer of Gingoog City, was re-elected as the Chapter President. The new set of officers includes:
Ms. Guillerma O. Barcenas of Misamis Oriental- Vice-President
Ms. Hazel P. Dondonayos of Valencia City- Secretary
Ms. Emelia S. Aluyudan of El Salvador City- Treasurer
Mr. Peter S. Abejo of Cagayan de Oro City- Auditor
Dr. Gretchen L. Cabalang of Camiguin- Public Information Officer
All the rest of the NAOs in the region will consist the Board of Directors.
Mr. Risonar, being the President of the association, will represent NAOPA, Inc. NM to the Regional Nutrition Committee 10. The Association, through RNC Resolution No. 5 series of 2014, is now a member of RNC X along with DCNPCAP, Inc. and National BNS Federation, Inc. Northern Mindanao Chapter.
The NAOPA, Inc NM also gave thanks to National Nutrition Council X through the leadership of Nutrition Program Coordinator Marissa DM. Navales for facilitating and supporting its membership to the RNC.

BNS Flordeliza Gonzales of Iligan City is elected President the National BNS Federation Inc.-Northern Mindanao Chapter. The election was done during the 3rd Quarter Meeting of Federation Chapter held September 5, 2014 at the NNC X Office.
Elected officers are: Merlyn Labadisos of Ozamiz City, Vice-President; Mary Ann Matuguinas of Cagayan de Oro City, Secretary; Puribel Talaroc of Misamis Oriental, Assistant Secretary; Ms. Dorothy Felipe of Bukidnon, Treasurer; Anita Medio of El Salvador City, Auditor and Ms. Mary Jane Oray of Valencia City as PIO. The new set of officers will serve from 2014-2016 and will take their oath during their November 4, 2014 meeting with NPC Marissa Navales administering the oath.
The discussion of the meeting focused on their Annual dues which will be turned-over during the BNS Conference at General Santos City on November 25-26, 2014. Also discussed were the benefits the BNSes will receive with the one-peso BNS Trust Fund and 2015 activities that the Federation can submit to NNC for support. hga

The National Nutrition Council X beefs up the efforts of Misamis Oriental in promoting good nutrition through the conduct of 18 batches of Training of Barangay Implementers on Promote Good Nutrition (PGN) in October to November this year. The training will cover 544 participants composed of Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Barangay Health Workers, Rural Health Midwives and Mother Leaders coming from the 136 target barangays.
The training program equips participants with the knowledge and skills in the promotion of good nutrition through Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), Pabasa sa Nutrisyon (PSN), Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) and the Promotion of Egg and Vegetable Consumption.
The Promote Good Nutrition Program was started by NNC in 2007 as a component of the Accelerated Hunger Mitigation Program started in 2007 which aims to improve the nutrition knowledge, attitudes and practices of families to increase demand for adequate, nutritious and safe food. The trainings for the remaining 113 barangays of Misamis Oriental as a priority four (4) area will be completed in 2015.

Governor Mohamad Khalid Q. Dimaporo signed on September 22, 2014 Executive Order No. 9, series of 2014 Reconstituting the Provincial Nutrition Committee of Lanao del Norte to make it more responsive to the current nutrition situation of the Province.
The E.O. also stipulated that the reconstituted Provincial Nutrition Committee will also function as the Local Nutrition Cluster as a sub-structure of the local disaster coordinating council. The PNC was also tasked to coordinate with the other local clusters on handling disasters and emergencies.
Lanao del Norte joins Misamis Occidental as the first provinces in Region X to heed National Nutrition Council’s call for the organization of local nutrition clusters.srdc

Cagayan de Oro City – Food security remains a major concern in Northern Mindanao. Efforts must have to take simultaneously at the household, national and regional levels to achieve the goal of making food available at prices that households can afford if the region wants to be food secure.
To ensure food security and to address food security issues in Region X, the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office 10 formally convened and organized Regional Food Security Technical Working Group (TWG) during its organizational meeting presided by Engr. Roxana H. Hojas - Regional Technical Director for Operations of DA-10 on November 17, 2014 at Harbor Lights Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City. NNC X attended the said meeting as one of the members of the TWG.
The TWG will give special attention to the region’s food situation (at any given time) to ensure food security and will work under the Economic Development Council of Regional Development Council 10. This group will also serve as the overall consolidator of the reports/feedbacks or whatever issues/concerns coming from the LGUs at the regional level and shall provide feedback to the EDC for appropriate action.

The National Nutrition Council X launched the Bisayan 2012 Revised Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos during the 2014 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held on September 30, 2014.
The Nutritional Guidelines are recommendations to promote good health through proper nutrition in simple statements that give advice on the consumption of food and food components which are of public health concerns. Also launched and distributed in the event is the NNC Coffee Table Book which documents the 40 years of NNC’s relevant and meaningful existence.
The launch was graced by Lanao del Norte Vice-Governor Maria Cristina N. Atay, DOH Aristides C. Tan and local chief executives and officials of Local Government Units Nutrition Awardees. It was a fitting gesture to channel resources on nutrition. Miss Marissa DM. Navales, the Nutrition Program Coordinator of NNC X together with Director Thelma B. Oliver of the Philippine Information Agency X led the ceremonial launch.rebjr
