Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development 7 MIND 7 goes to Bohol Province for Learning Visit

Bohol Province – The officers and select members of the Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development 7 (MIND 7), the regional media group in Central Visayas together with NNC 7 staff visited the municipalities of Tubigon, Calape and Carmen and BQ Mall in Tagbilaran City last December 9 – 10, 2011 for a Media Learning Visit. Within the 2 day visit, they were able to see firsthand the nutrition programs being implemented in these areas and institution like the Breastfeeding Station in public places and in the workplace, the Supplementary Feeding Program of day care children and the Pabasa sa Nutrisyon.

Arellano, made this statement in the aftermath of the second National Conference of Barangay Nutrition Scholars held last November 28 to 29, 2012 at the L'Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City.

Underscoring the roles of barangay nutrition scholars, the conference carried the theme "Bida ng Barangay, Bida ng Bayan."

The conference discussed updates on the National Nutrition Situation and Why is height measurement important for nutrition assessment by Dr. Jocelyn Jugan of FNRI – DOST; The Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2011 – 2016 by Ms. Marivic Samson of NNC; What can the BNS do when there is severe acute malnutrition by Mr. Omar Sinsuat of Health for Mindanao; Salt Iodization and Nutrition by Mr. Gerard Khong Hun, of Salinas Foods; Achieving the balance between love, life and being a BNS by Mr. Teofilo Loharca; Documentation Skills by Ms. Jovita Raval of NNC.

The Barangay Nutrition Scholars will converge in the CCP of the South (Luce Auditorium, Silliman University) on 07-08 November 2011 for their 7th Regional BNS Congress.

The Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) coming from the provinces of Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental and Siquijor will converge at the magnificent Claire Isabel Luce Auditorium of Silliman University. Considered as the Cultural Center of the South, the Luce Auditorium will be the venue of the 7th Regional Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Congress on 07 – 08 November 2011. The Congress which is now in its 7th year is organized by the National Nutrition Council Region VII thru the Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars’ Association of Region VII (FeBaNuSA 7).  This year’s event will have an inspiring theme “Developing Capacities of BNS to Overcome Challenges".  Congresswoman Jocelyn S. Limkaichong of the 1st District of Negros Oriental was invited to grace the event as the Keynote speaker.

- Hon. Roel R. Degamo, Governor of Negros Oriental committed Php 1,000,000.00 Philippine currency for the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) and the BNS Provincial Association of Negros Oriental. The pledge came about after the Degamo attended the 7th Central Visayas Regional BNS Congress held on 07-08 November 2011 at the Negros Oriental Convention Center & Silliman University, Dumaguete City. The Governor vowed his support to provide assistance to BNSs in 
his province for their livelihood projects, capability building activities and to strengthen the Negros Oriental BNS Provincial Federation.

A Nutrition Program Management Training was organized and facilitated by the Institue of Human Nutrition & Food - College of Human Ecology, Universtiy of the Philippines Los Banos last 10-14 October 2011 at Bethel Guest House, Dumaguete City. Nine (9) municipalities and 6 component cities were represented by the members of Local Nutrition Committees including the Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, Municipal Planning and Development Officers and District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators.

world blogathon 2012Cebu City - There is more to featuring nutrition in posters, press releases and television ads. The medium this time are on blogs. And why not? Nutrition is a mindset game and what better way than to bring this up close to audiences through a pull medium.

Last December 8, the Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development 7 (MIND 7) took part in what was yet the biggest offline event, the World Blogathon 2012. Some 10 organizations made full presentations about their organization in blogs, mostly to draw audiences to advocacies of their organizations. Mr. Dave F. Bargamento, Nutrition Officer II of the National Nutrition Council 7 represented MIND 7. He presented a strong nutrition advocacy in aligning with the blog slogan, "Act Now."
