2022 Dec30 MUACBohol Province - According to the World Health Organization (WHO), malnutrition refers to deficiencies or excesses in nutrient intake, an imbalance of essential nutrients, or impaired nutrient utilization.

The double burden of malnutrition consists of both undernutrition and overnutrition, as well as diet-related noncommunicable diseases. Undernutrition manifests in three broad ways: wasting, stunting, underweight, and micronutrient deficiencies while overnutrition can be classified as overweight and obesity. 

2022 Dec30 BaclayonBaclayon, Bohol - The Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) of Baclayon spearheaded by its Chair and Mayor A. Alvin Uy held a 3-year Barangay Nutrition Action Plan (BNAP) workshop on 27 December 2022 at the Baclayon Cultural Center of  this town. 

The workshop was attended by 19 participants composed of the barangay nutrition scholars, the barangay treasurers, and the barangay captains from  17 barangays of the municipality. The activity was funded by the municipal health office led by Mr. Justin Paul Roa and MNPC Paz Morales. DNPCs Kristine Vano and Giezel Dogoy of the Bohol PNC Secretariat facilitated the planning workshop.

2022 Dec30 FunctionalityCebu City – The immensity of the malnutrition problem in the country greatly needs involvement and participation of the key nutrition stakeholders and the people at the grassroots level. It is crucial that the local nutrition committees (LNCs) in the respective local government units are efficient in delivering effective nutrition services and better nutrition program management.

The Department of the Interior Local and Government (DILG) is responsible for assessing the functionality of the LNC thus the DILG together with the National Nutrition Council developed a LNC functionality tool. The tool in the form of a checklist aims to set a criterion for a functional LNCs, establish a system for monitoring and create a database that will serve as a basis for identifying and prioritizing areas for improvement.
