Cebu City - The Operation Timbang Plus or OPT Plus has been mentioned a couple of times especially when scrolling through the webpage of the National Nutrition Council. As cited in the previous articles that highlights the subject. OPT Plus is basically an activity that gathers the anthropometric measurements of children to look into their nutritional status and determine the nutritional standing of the barangay and later on collated to produce the provincial, regional and national database.
It was also alluded to in the previous write-up the implication of good quality data and the importance of having accurate and reliable anthropometric measurements to ascertain the real nutrition situation and plan for appropriate interventions. This time this article tackles the different dimensions of OPT Plus data quality.

Cebu City – The National Nutrition Council Region VII attended a focus group discussion (FGD) as part of the preparatory steps in crafting the Regional Development Plan (RDP) 2023-2022. Organized by the National Economic and Development Authority 7, the activity was held on 14, December 2022 at the NEDA Region 7 Office, Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City.
DMO II Norre Jean V. delos Santos represented the agency during the meeting. The team was composed of 15 representatives from the different government and non-government agencies including the DOH CV CHD, DILG 7, PopCom 7, NNC 7, NEDA 7, USAID Philippines, and PNA Cebu Chapter.
The attendees revisited the Central Visayas RDP’s Social Sector, particularly sub-chapter 4.1 “Boosting Health and Nutrition” and generated inputs, comments, and recommendations to the situational and strategy frameworks.

Guihulngan City - On 21 December 2022, Guihulngan City experienced heavy flooding coming from the mountains. This has caused the river in the Barangay Poblacion area to overflow forcing the affected population to evacuate to safer grounds. With the situation, the city activated its City Nutrition Cluster where health and nutrition personnel conducted a nutrition risk assessment for evacuees.
According to CNPC Arianne Paz C. Malahay, they fielded a health and nutrition team immediately to assess the situation. Nutrition assessment is a critical task by the health and nutrition team to ensure that evacuees’ health and nutrition needs will be addressed right away. After this, nutrition in emergency services was provided to the affected population.

Tanjay City - Social media becomes one of the media platforms to influence and advocate since it delivers messages across the globe as long as there is internet connection. This tool, especially Facebook application, has been widely utilized by Filipino netizens, making it the most powerful influencer across all age groups. Because of this, the National Nutrition Council also utilizes Facebook applications in promoting nutrition information.
Since Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program is a banner program of the Early Childhood Care and Development, which aims in promoting awareness of the importance of child nutrition from pregnancy up to 2-years of age, it is critical that the agency informs the public of its existence. How did the National Nutrition Council Region VII do this? That is by introducing the TKSP Challenge! TKSP Challenge is a mix of social media challenges which interacts with viewers by letting them answer various challenges, quizzes and activities via the post’s comment section. This enables the Facebook Page followers of the National Nutrition Council Region VII to interact with their fellow followers, answer and get a chance to receive prizes and most especially, be informed on the first 1000 days campaign.

Cebu City- In continuation from the Tips on how to measure length or height of children: Introduction, this part will talk about the steps in measuring 0-23 months children using the height board. Before starting the procedure, secure the consent of the parent or guardian of the child and explain the steps that are to be taken and the purpose of the activity.
Once the measuring tool has been calibrated and verified for use, position the board horizontally on a stable, hard surface. Inform the parent or caregiver that the child will be measured on an elevated surface, such as a strong table or the ground, if set down on a desk or other flat surface make sure it is stable to prevent mishaps.
If in need, ask for the assistance of the parent or guardian in making sure that the child is still or is not restless during the assessment. Also ask the guardian to remove any headwear and footwear that the child is wearing.

Bohol Province – The Bohol Provincial Nutrition Committee thru its secretariat organized a training on Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) for Barangay Nutrition Scholars and Barangay Health Workers. The capacity development activity conducted in 2 batches was done on 22 and 23 September 2022 at the San Miguel Technical Vocational School Home Economics building room. A total of 18 barangay nutrition scholars and 36 barangay health workers attended the training.
PNPC Glenda G. Grafilo, PNPC Ardin B. Abrea, RND, and DNPC Beatrice P. Rafols facilitated the sessions.
