good vs bad carbs

Naga City -- In this day and age, carbohydrates tend to have a bad reputation. This macronutrient is usually blamed for weight gain and obesity. But, are they really the culprit?

Simple carbohydrates have easy-to-digest sugars that are naturally occurring like those found in fruits. Processed sugars are usually added to pastries and soda. Since this type of carb is digested easily, it can cause a spike in blood sugar levels.

Complex carbohydrates are a good kind of carbs. They are usually found in plant-based foods like vegetables, and whole grains. They have longer molecules and sugars which take longer to break down. It also contains fiber that allows a slower digestion process and steady release of glucose, preventing spikes in blood sugar levels. Fiber also allows you to feel full longer, preventing binge-eating episodes.
