Participants and facilitators of the 2019 Nutrition Program Management Training.The National Nutrition Council – NCR conducted its 6th batch of training on Nutrition Program Management on August 5-9, 2019 at St. Giles Hotel, Makati City. The training was attended by twenty-three (23) participants from ten (10) LGUs namely Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela, San Juan, Makati, Manila, Mandaluyong, Muntinlupa and Paraǹaque. Participants were composed of City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO), Assistant CNAO, City Nutrition Program Coordinators, BHW District Leaders, and members of the local nutrition committees.

The training was facilitated by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa Federizo, Ms. Soccoro Alma Gammad (Nutrition Officer IV of Makati City), Ms. Maria Ana Ordenes (Nutritionist-Dietitian III of Muntinlupa City) and Ms. Marie Tess Belo (ND III of Mandaluyong City). Other facilitators were NO III Emerenciana Francia, NO II Theresa Rivas and NO I Mary Agnes Beatrice Menorca.  NO I Menorca together with Administrative Aide VI Sarah Jane Bautista acted as the training secretariat.

The National Nutrition Council – NCR conducted its 6th Stakeholders' Forum in support of the 2019 Nutrition Month Theme, "Kumain nang wasto at maging aktibo… push natin 'to!" held on July 30, 2019 at the Heritage Hotel, Pasay City.

The forum aims to increase awareness on the importance of healthy diet and physical activity to prevent overweight and obesity and non-communicable diseases. It also aims to teach participants simple exercises that can be done at the workplace even in limited spaces. The forum was attended by around 250 stakeholders from the academe, private elementary schools, non-governmental organizations, national government agencies and local government units.

Professor Hercules Callanta (left) teaching the MMDA employees simple exercises that can be done in the workplaces even in limited spaces (right).The National Nutrition Council – NCR (NNC-NCR) encouraged the employees of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to eat healthy and become physically active during the Information Sharing Session (ISS) on Healthy Diet and Physical Activity in the Workplace held at the MMDA Arena on July 4, 2019.  The ISS moderated by Nutrition Officer (NO) III Emerenciana L. Francia was attended by more than 60 MMDA employees.

In her message, NNC-NCR Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator (RNPC) Milagros Elisa V. Federizo emphasized the three (3) key messages of Nutrition Month: 1) Have at least one (1) hour of physical activity everyday; 2) Limit screen time to two (2) hours or less per day especially for children; and, 3) Ensure that the three (3) food groups Go, Grow and Glow are present per meal everyday.

rnac 2019 articleThe National Nutrition Council – NCR of the Department of Health recognized top performing local government units (LGUs) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) in the National Capital Region (NCR) found to be compliant with nutrition standards in 2018 during the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) held on July 26, 2019 at the Heritage Hotel, Pasay City.

The RNAC serves as the culminating event of the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) and the Search for the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (ROBNS).  It was attended by around 220 participants from the LGUs composed of the Mayors, Nutrition Action Officers (NAOs), members of local nutrition committees (LNCs), BNSs, and other stakeholders. 

F1K Forum of MMCHDThe National Nutrition Council at the National Capital Region is committed to support the implementation of the Republic Act 11148 in the region. RA 11148 more commonly known as “Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act” aims to strengthen the national and local health and nutrition programs for pregnant and lactating women, adolescent girls, infants and young children in the first 1000 days.

Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa V. Federizo and Nutrition Officer III Emerenciana L. Francia were among the participants that expressed their commitment and support to the First 1000 Days Program during the Nutrition in the First 1000 Days Forum conducted by the Metro Manila Center for Health Development (MM-CHD) on June 28, 2019 at Hotel H2O, Manila. The forum was attended by representatives from the seventeen (17) LGUs of Metro Manila and partner agencies.

Poster Making Contest 2019Public Junior High School Students from the thirteen (13) schools division offices in Metro Manila competed in this year’s On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest conducted by the National Nutrition Council - NCR in support to the 2019 Nutrition Month with the theme, “Kumain nang wasto at maging aktibo…push natin ‘to!”.

The contest was held on July 12, 2019 at the NNC Boardroom, Taguig City. There were no representatives from the cities of Caloocan, Valenzuela, Marikina and Quezon City. The contest aims to increase the awareness of young people on the importance of healthy diet, increased physical activity and reduced sedentary behavior to prevent overweight and obesity and non-communicable diseases.
