The inter-agency LBATF is composed of members from the following agencies: City Nutrition Office, Public Information Office, Consumer Welfare Office, Department of Interior and Local Government, Barangay Operations Office, Environment and Sanitary Services Division, EEMD, and Health and Promotion Division.

Writers Guild writeshopThe National Nutrition Council – NCR conducted a workshop for the members of the Regional Nutrition Writers’ Guild to improve their skills on writing articles for the web and social media management.  The workshop was held on September 4, 2019 at the NNC Conference Room, Taguig City. It was attended by 14 representatives from the local government units in NCR.  All LGUs were well represented except for Valenzuela, Pateros and Las Piňas.

The workshop aimed to improve the participants’ skills in writing quality news and feature articles for the web to promote good nutrition and disseminate nutrition-related information.  It also aimed to capacitate the participants on how to manage and maintain their respective local nutrition committee facebook pages and use it effectively and efficiently in promoting and sharing nutrition and related information as well as informing the public on their nutrition activities.

Participants assessing their respective LBATFs’ functionalityLocal government units in Metro Manila committed to intensify the implementation of the Salt Iodization Program (SIP) in the region by reactivating their Local Bantay Asin Task Forces (LBATFs). The reaffirmation of their commitment was done during the joint meeting of the Regional Technical Working Group on SIP (RTWG-SIP) and LBATFs held on April 24, 2019 at the NNC Boardroom, Taguig City.

The meeting was presided by the RTWG-SIP Vice Chair Ms. Milagros Elisa Federizo, NNC-NCR Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, on behalf of RTWG-SIP Chair Regional Director of Metro Manila Center for Health Development Dr. Corazon Flores. It was attended by five (5) representatives from the member agencies of the RTWG-SIP namely MMDA, DSWD-NCR, NCRPO, PIA and Liga ng mga Barangay. Nutritionist-Dietitians and sanitary inspectors from the 14 LGUs except Manila, Las Piňas and Marikina were also present.

LGU Mobilization Forum with captionOne of the enabling programs of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 is the mobilization of LGUs for delivery of nutrition outcomes: reduced wasting (“payat”) and stunting (“bansot”) among children under-five years old, reduced deficiencies in vitamin A, iron and iodine and reduced prevalence of overweight and obesity.

The National Nutrition Council recognizes the key role of local government units (LGUs) as prime movers of the PPAN. On August 23, 2019, around 80 participants composed of local chief executive, vice mayor, city nutrition action officers (CNAO), city councilors, members of local nutrition committees, DILG city/municipal directors and representatives, nutritionist-dietitians and members of the Regional Nutrition Committee gathered together for an LGU Mobilization Forum organized by NNC-NCR. The forum held at the AIM Conference Center in Makati City became an avenue for sharing good practices of selected LGUs implementing quality nutrition programs.

robnsThe Search for the 2018 Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (ROBNS) in the National Capital Region is on its final leg as the fifteen (15) ROBNS contenders took their written examination and went through a panel interview on April 26, 2019 at the NNC Central Office in Taguig City.

The NCR’s Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) evaluated the performances of the contenders for the ROBNS Award by doing a documents review using the new Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation Protocol or MELLPI Pro for Local Nutrition Workers.  The MELLPI visits were done from March 12 to April 10, 2019.  Aside from the documents review, all the ROBNS contenders must take a written examination and undergo an interview.

RNPC Mila Federizo discussing the topic “The Double Burden of Malnutrition in Schools: How Do We Fight It?” during the technical session.Private schools in the National Capital Regional (NCR) commit to help fight malnutrition in their respective schools by determining the nutritional status of their students and plan nutrition programs accordingly.  The commitment was affirmed by the 54 private schools that attended the Advocacy Forum on Nutrition Assessment and Overweight and Obesity in Schools held on May 23, 2019 at Richville Hotel, Mandaluyong City. 

The advocacy forum aimed to enjoin the private elementary and secondary schools in NCR to conduct nutritional status assessment as part of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition’s Overweight and Obesity Management and Prevention Program.  It was attended by 114 participants composed of directors, principals, school administrators and nurses from private schools in NCR, private school coordinators and health and nutrition coordinators of Schools Division Offices (SDO) of Department of Education – NCR (DepEd-NCR) and representatives from partner agencies.
