munti prog effectivenessA significant reduction in underweight among children 0-5 years old was noted in Muntinlupa City in the past three (3) years, from a prevalence of 5.07% in 2014 to 1.53% in 2016. For the City Nutrition Committee (CNC), this significant improvement in nutrition situation is a considerable feat.

The city boasts of having an active and fully functional City Nutrition Committee based on the LNC Functionality Checklist of the National Nutrition Council. It has 22 members from government and non-government organizations who are actively involved in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating a mix of nutrition programs and projects anchored on the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN). The Mayor has issued Executive Order 39 reorganizing the CNC and EO 40 creating the City Nutrition Cluster.

manilaThe City of Manila attributes the efficient implementation of their nutrition programs to a number of factors. Among those are the well-grounded advocacy on nutrition, active participation of the community, political will of the City Mayor as Chair of the Manila City Nutrition Coordinating Council (MNCC) and supporting policies on nutrition and related programs and projects.

The MNCC adopted a lifecycle approach in the planning and delivery of nutrition services. The city is committed in providing a continuum of nutrition interventions to address both the immediate and underlying causes of malnutrition. The city recognizes the fact that malnutrition is more than just a health problem and must be dealt with the right mix of health, nutrition and related programs and services.

doh hope 2017 revThe National Nutrition Council – NCR (NNC-NCR) participated in the grand launching of the Health Outreach for People Empowerment (HOPE) for the Modified Conditional Cash Transfer (MCCT) beneficiaries in Metro Manila spearheaded by the Department of Health – NCRO (DOH-NCRO) in partnership with the Local Government Units, DSWD, PhilHealth and other stakeholders held on September 05, 2017 at the Cuneta Astrodome, Pasay City.

In previous years, target population of HOPE was the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) beneficiaries. However, as part of the DOH’s Last Mile Towards Universal Health Care: Reaching the Unreached slogan, HOPE was introduced to more than 1,500 MCCT beneficiaries of Manila and Pasay City with the aim of reaching the most vulnerable groups who are in need of immediate health services. The activity was conducted to achieve one of the objectives of the Philippine Heath Agenda which is to ensure that all Filipinos attain the best possible health outcomes with no disparity. HOPE Caravan will also be conducted in other LGUs in Metro Manila to target more MCCT beneficiaries in NCR.

Eusebio, faced those challenges squarely and ensured that nutrition is a top priority program of the city government.

The Eusebio couple made sure that their City Nutrition Committee (CNC) is active and functional and together, they worked hard to reduce malnutrition in the city. Guided by a common vision of a well-nourished Pasig City, the multi-sectoral CNC planned and implemented a comprehensive nutrition program.
