Advocacy is a key strategy in improving the implementation of nutrition programs of Parañaque City.
City Nutrition Committee (CNC) Chair Mayor Edwin Olivarez expressed his commitment to make Nutrition a priority concern of his administration when he first stepped into office in 2013. He designated his wife, Mrs. Janet Olivarez as the City Nutrition Action Officer. Since then, the CNC has been doing its best to meet the expectations of its Chair by planning and implementing a comprehensive nutrition program. CNAO Janet Olivarez oversees the activities of the CNC and ensures that it remains active and functional.
In 2016, the CNC with technical assistance from NNC-NCR, conducted a planning workshop to formulate their 3-year City Nutrition Action Plan (CNAP). The planning workshop not only led to the formulation of their CNAP but also made the CNC members closer to one another.

The Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) of NCR in partnership with the National Nutrition Council – NCR (NNC-NCR) annually conducts an outreach activity for the elderlies as one of their regular activities. It is held every November, which started in 2015, to bring the Christmas spirit and joy to the elderly residents of their chosen institution.
For its third year, the BNS Federation decided to conduct the activity at Luwalhati ng Maynila Home for the Aged in Manila Boystown Complex, Marikina City. The activity was held last January 25, 2018 with the theme, “Love ko si Lolo, Love ko si Lola, Love you pa more!” participated in by 30 lolos and lolas.

The National Nutrition Council – NCR (NNC-NCR) recognizes the internet as an effective medium for nutrition promotion and advocacy. By publishing articles on the web, more people, locally and globally, will be aware of the efforts being done by the NNC-NCR in addressing the problem of hunger and malnutrition in Metro Manila.
To capacitate the regional office technical personnel on how to properly and effectively write web articles, a training on “Writing Press Release for Nutrition Promotion and Advocacy” was conducted by the NNC-NCR on December 19. The training was held at the DOH-NCRO Conference Room in Mandaluyong City as part of their training and development.

Nutrition partners in Metro Manila pledged their commitment in reducing all forms of malnutrition in the region with the implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 at the regional dissemination forum held on January 11 at the Heritage Hotel, Pasay City.
Around 250 participants from the regional and local nutrition committees, local chief executives, city/municipal nutrition action officers (C/MNAOs), city/municipal nutrition program coordinators (C/DNPCs), schools division office superintendents and nurse coordinators, barangay nutrition scholars (BNS), partners from non-government organizations (NGOs) and members of media guaranteed their support to ensure that PPAN will be effectively and efficiently implemented in order to achieve its goals and targets both at the regional and local levels.

Local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila commit to further intensify local media campaign in 2018. Using multimedia strategies combined with interpersonal communication, the LGUs expect greater audience coverage in promoting these key nutrition messages: 10 Kumainments, Pinggang Pinoy®, healthy diet, and vegetable gardening.
The local media campaign is a planned set of activities designed and carried out using different channels of communication to create awareness, facilitate understanding and influence and bring about change.
Through the program implementation review (PIR) of the local media campaign spearheaded by NNC-NCR last November 28, participants were able to identify the activities that worked well and those that did not that were conducted in their areas in 2017. Most activities done used interpersonal communication such as counseling and lectures and group communication activities such as bench conferences and Mothers’ Classes.

Mandaluyong City BNS Mary Grace Tamayo was re-elected as President of the Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) of NCR for CY 2018-2019. The election was held on November 07, 2017 among the 17 BNS presidents from the local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila.
BNS Tamayo fulfilled her duties as the BNS Federation president from 2015 until 2017 and will continue to lead the organization until 2019. The Federation, under her leadership, has successfully accomplished several activities including the First 1000 Days Fun Run in 2016 and Outreach Activities for the Elderly in 2015 and 2016, to name a few. With the successful conduct of these activities, she gained the trust and support of all Barangay Nutrition Scholars in Metro Manila.
