bns articleAround 300 Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) from the 17 local government units (LGUS) in Metro Manila pledged to fight hunger and malnutrition through the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 during the 31st Annual Regional BNS Conference held on 21 November 2017 at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel in the City of Manila. 

This year’s conference with the theme, “BNS: Sama-samang iPPANalo ang Bayan!”, aimed to inform the participants on the PPAN, its thrusts, strategic directions and programs in achieving the targeted nutrition outcomes.  As the front-line workers in the barangay who provide basic nutrition and related services and serve as the link between the service providers and the families, the BNSs were updated on what they can do to promote and support the PPAN. 

2nd HOPE CaravanThe National Nutrition Council – NCR (NNC-NCR) participated in the 2nd Health Outreach for People Empowerment (HOPE) Caravan conducted by the Department of Health – National Capital Regional Office (DOH-NCRO) on November 04, 2017 at the Amoranto Stadium, Quezon City. 

With the theme “The Last Mile Towards Universal Health Care: Saan Mang Sulok, Kalusugan Maaabot”, the HOPE Caravan aimed to reach the most vulnerable groups who are in need of immediate health services.  The grand launch of the HOPE Caravan for MCCT beneficiaries was held on September 05, 2017 in Pasay City targeting beneficiaries from the cities of Pasay and Manila.

The caravan targeted more than 2,000 beneficiaries of the Modified Conditional Cash Transfer (MCCT) from Quezon City for its 2nd run.

Guided by the theme “Achieve! Work hard. Stay positive. Make it happen”, the activity served as a good opportunity for the group to discover and understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses.  This helped the group become more united and closely knit not just as a team but as a family. 

The group first visited Our Lady of Lourdes Church and Little Souls Convent to start the day with the blessings of God and to offer their prayers of thanks for all the guidance and blessings.  After having their sumptuous lunch at the Mahogany Market, the group then headed to Piña Colina Resort for the teambuilding exercises.

cdnpc conf 2017City/District Nutrition Program Coordinators (C/DNPCs) in Metro Manila pledge their commitment in moving the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 forwardfor better nutrition in the region during the 32nd Annual C/DNPC Regional Conference held on October 26, 2017 at the H2O Hotel in Manila. 

The conference with the theme, “Moving PPAN Forward for Better Nutrition: Sa PPAN, panalo ang bayan!”, aimed to inform the participants on the PPAN, its thrusts, strategic directions and programs in achieving the targeted nutrition outcomes.  It was attended by 110 C/DNPCs and guests from the 17 local government units in Metro Manila except San Juan City.   

rnmg teambuildingInspired by a quote from John Maxwell, “Teamwork makes the dream work”, the members of the Regional Nutrition Management Group (RNMG) went to Tagaytay City on 15 September 2017 for their Annual Team Building spearheaded by the National Nutrition Council-NCR.  The RNMG, composed of representatives from member agencies of the inter-agency Regional Nutrition Committee, serves as the Technical Working Group on Nutrition in the region.

The team building exercises aimed at deepening the RNMG’s their camaraderie, strengthening their unity and bond of friendship, and making them appreciate more their value as a team in working for nutrition improvement in Metro Manila.

policyfinalThe National Nutrition Council at the National Capital Region (NNC-NCR) conducted a 4-day Policy Review and Workshop on the Formulation of the Regional Plan of Action for Nutrition (RPAN) 2017-2022 on 17-20 October 2017 at the Island Cove Hotel and Leisure Park in Kawit, Cavite.

The workshop was participated in by members of the inter-agency Regional Nutrition Management Group (RNMG) that serves as the technical working group of the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC):  Ms. Melissa de Mesa (DSWD-NCR); Ms. Lucia Broño (PIA-NCR); Dr. Lucy Peregrina (DepED-NCR); Ms. Joyce dela Paz-Hilvano (POPCOM-NCR); Ms. Marlene Viray-Navarro (Grace Family Helper Project); Ms. Mary Anne Gatbonton (Nutrition Foundation of the Philippines); Dr. Shari Ludovina Sabalvaro (NCR Nutrition Communication Resource Group); and Ms. Olive del Rosario (Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholar of NCR, Inc.).  Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa V. Federizo and Nutrition Officer III Emerenciana L. Francia facilitated the workshop while NO II Theresa A. Rivas, NO I Mary Agnes Beatrice R. Menorca and Administrative Aide VI Stephanie Joy D. Bactad provided secretariat
