NPC Ma. Eileen B. Blanco took part in the Executive Committee Meeting of Department of Health - Center for Health and Development (DOH CHD) MIMAROPA last 16 February 2021 presided by Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) Chair, and Regional Director Dr. Mario S. Baquilod.
NPC Blanco presented the 2020 Regional Nutrition Situation based on Operation Timbang (OPT) Plus Results . OPT is the annual weighing and length/height measurement of all preschoolers 0-59 months old or below five years old in the community to identify and locate the malnourished children. The data on nutrition situation is used in nutrition program planning and monitoring and evaluation of local nutrition programs.

National Nutrition Council MIMAROPA organized the first meeting of Nutrition Action Officers of the Philippines – MIMAROPA Chapter and Provincial/City Nutrition Action Officers on 17 February 2021 via Zoom Application with 14 attendees.
Agenda of the meeting included the MELLPI Assistance to national contenders – Calapan City and Roxas, Oriental Mindoro; conduct of MELLPI Pro to barangays, municipalities, provinces, and to local nutrition workers; tentative MELLPI schedule of the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team; update on e-OPT Tool; and the Proposal for Dietary Supplementation Program for Pregnant Women.

Velasco at the House of Representatives, Batasan Complex, Quezon City. Also present during the meeting were Deputy Secretary General of the Office of the Speaker Atty. Jocelia B. Sipin and Program Coordinator Ms. Lorie Gacusan.

Apart from Valentine’s day that is celebrated every February, one important occasion that every Filipino should look forward to this love month is the annual celebration of the Philippine Heart Month. The said campaign is proclaimed by virtue of Proclamation No. 1096 and signed on 9 January 1973 to raise awareness on cardiovascular health as a lead public campaign to improve the heart health of every Filipino. This year’s theme titled “Your Heart’s Health, Your Choice” gives the message that one’s lifestyle choices affects their heart health. The heart has a high risk of being affected with different non-communicable disease such as hypertension, diabetes, stroke, among others. Taking good care of the heart is a must and should not be ignored.
