Holidays are festive times of the year with seemingly endless opportunities to cheat on our diet and skip a workout. On normal days, it is already hard enough to exercise and be physically active especially when schedules are tight and busy. But on holidays, many of us find it harder to exercise and it becomes less of a priority because of the growing to-do lists and the holidays’ vibe that pushes us to slack off on our fitness routines. Gaining weight is almost always assumed as part of this season, but we can definitely avoid this from happening.

Holiday season is fast approaching! With few more days left before Christmas and New year, you may already have your plans how to spend this season such as eating and drinking with family and friends and skipping your fitness routine to unwind for yourself. Eating healthy food does not mean giving up your favorite foods. Most people tend to ditch the fryer when they start to eat healthy, however many don’t think about how their cooking method affects the nutritional make-up of their food. Some cooking methods are better than others for cutting fat, cholesterol and calories while enhancing the nutritional value of the food. Avoid cooking methods that add unhealthy fats (saturated and trans fats). Here are some healthier cooking methods for you to try especially this holiday season.
1. Microwaving
Nuking, which means to cook or bake in a microwave oven may be the healthiest way to cook because of its short cooking times which results in minimal nutrient destruction. Sometimes, microwave cooking may cause the food to dry out, but you can splash a bit of water before heating, or placing a wet paper towel over the dish. Studies even suggest that microwave cooking may just be one of the best ways to preserve nutrients in vegetables.

The Department of Agriculture - Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA9-SAAD) Program turned over a total of ₱ 1,162,000.00 worth of agricultural interventions to Labukanan Farmers Association in barangay Daniel Maing, Municipality of Kalawit, Zamboanga del Norte on December 10, 2020.
In support to the department’s mission of making food available and affordable for all, the Labukanan FA was given a corn mill with shed worth ₱920,000 and four modules of Layer Chicken Project consisting of 192 heads, worth ₱242,000.00, as livelihood interventions to primarily increase agricultural production and income.

GEORGE ADVIENTO underwent a Basic Training on Mushroom Culture held at the CCSBDE Annex NSRE Bagong Calarian, barangay Lower Calarian in Zamboanga City on November 21, 2020.

The Department of Agriculture IX - Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program conducted a Technical Training on Coffee Production and Free-range Native Chicken Raising to 60 members of Nacibac Mountainside Farmers Association in barangay Nacibac, Municipality of Leon Postigo, Zamboanga del Norte on November 25, 2020.
The one-day training was held at the Nacibac barangay covered court. It aimed to equip the farmers with knowledge on proper management on coffee and native chicken, so as to ably sustain their livelihood projects for income and job generation.
