One of the highlights during the cooking demonstration was the preparation on the recipe of Croquettas. RO9 RiceAwarenessThe National Rice Awareness Month (NRAM) is celebrated in the country every month of November annually by virtue of the Proclamation No. 524 series of 2004. This year’s theme “Quality Rice, Quality Life” focuses on improving farmers’ competitiveness to produce quality rice and instill the values of responsible rice consumption among consumers, thus contributing in achieving sufficiency in the country.

Rice is life especially for Filipinos and other Asians. Even with the availability of other staple foods such as noodles and bread, rice remains to be the primary choice for staple food in the Philippines. Rice, locally known as “Palay” (un-milled rice), “Bigas” (milled rice), and “Kanin” (cooked rice) is much more than food. It is a grain crop that has historical and cultural significance. In fact, it is commonly associated with many rituals, traditions and cultural practices in the country and are deeply woven in Filipino culture for years in different areas of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

RO9 CounterfeitFake medicines have always been a problem in the Philippines as the country is geographically near to leading fraudulent manufacturers such as China, Pakistan, and India. That’s why the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the Philippines advised consumers to maintain a high level of awareness about counterfeit drugs and to buy medicines from drugstores duly-licensed by the FDA. Consumers should also think twice if the price is lower than usual, especially those found online or in the black market.

Counterfeit drugs are fake medicines. They are products that maybe contaminated or contain the wrong or no active ingredients. They could have right active ingredients but at the wrong dose and may be harmful to your health. During this time of pandemic there are a lot of counterfeiters taking advantage of the growing demands of medicines and vitamins in the market. Thus, Presidential Proclamation No. 8052 dated 15 June 2010, declares every third week of November of every year as the National Consciousness Week against Counterfeit Medicine. This year’s theme is “Sa Gitna ng Pandemya, Magtulungan Laban sa Pekeng Medisina.”
