With the aim of keeping the partners and stakeholders updated, National Nutrition Council-Region VIconducted a virtual Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC)/Nutrition Cluster Meeting via Google Meet on July 14, 2020. The meeting was presided by Department of Health 6 Director and RNC Chairperson Dr. Marlyn Convocar. 

Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Nona Tad-y and Nutrition Officer III Sheryl Sedantes gave updates on Plans/Activities for 2020 Nutrition Month, Conduct of Conferences/Forums of NAOs, Nutriskwela Community Radio Stations and Updates on ECCD F1K. The Oil spill and other actions requested from other agencies and upcoming webinars were discussed for the Nutrition Cluster Issues and Concerns.

The first ever virtual launching of the Nutrition Month celebration in Western Visayas happened last July 1 via Google Meet.

On its 46th year, the Nutrition Month campaign focuses on bringing actions to address child stunting. It carries the theme “Batang Pinoy, SANA TALL... Iwas stunting, SAMA ALL!” Unlike in the past, this year's celebration has also a sub-theme “Iwas ALL din sa COVID-19!” considering the pandemic and the community quarantine measures being implemented.

To provide guidance on the preparation and handling of food for COVID-19 suspect, probable, and confirmed cases of mild COVID-19 and housed in temporary treatment and monitoring facilities operated by the DOH and the Local Government Units (LGUs).

The Nutrition School On the Air (NSOA) a nutrition promotion module developed by the National Nutrition Council to create public awareness, correct misconceptions and false beliefs, and adapt good nutrition practices is on air at Carles, Iloilo.

The Nutrition School On Air is a nutrition-specific program that promotes behavior change through radio, ensuring that correct and proper information on nutrition is disseminated to all. The module covers the talking points of 10 Kumainments translated to Hiligaynon by NNC-Region VI in 2017.

With so much drastically changing our world in the past several weeks, both negative and positive results have occurred. The “new normal” is the new way of life after the lifting of ECQ. Where we still need to practice social distancing and make other behavioral changes. World leaders and scientists are still advising the public to stay at home unless it's absolutely necessary.

2nd Quarter RNTC Meeeting

A meeting of the Regional Nutrition Technical Committee (RNTC) / Nutrition Cluster was held June 2, 2020 at MO2 Westown Hotel, Iloilo City. Fifteen participants from different agencies were present. It was presided by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Nona B. Tad-y of NNC - Region VI.

In view of the implementation of health standards/protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the Region. Wearing of face mask, social distancing, frequent hand washing and use of alcohol/ sanitizer were strictly followed. The agenda discussed are 1.) Suspension of nutrition activities: MELLPI and OBNS Evaluation, 2.) Options in celebrating Nutrition Month 2020, 3.) OPT Plus issues and concerns, 4.) Updates: Nutrition Cluster. The survey of Social Weather Stations from May 4-10, 2020 “SWS: Number of hungry Filipino families nearly doubles due to COVID-19 blow” was also presented. There were exchanges of updates, ideas, suggestions, and recommendations from the participants on issues raised during the meeting.
