“Nutri Talk-Iloilo,” a panel discussion on various nutrition and health-related topics has come up with its latest editions on how people can protect themselves and remain healthy with healthy diets as pandemic has limited movements of people including delivery of health and nutrition services.
In the editions aired over channel 32 of Sky Cable several times a day, National Nutrition Council VI Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Nona B. Tad-y, said that the latest (September) Social Weather Station revealed that over 30 percent of Filipinos experienced moderate hunger in the past three months.

The Orientation for the Early Childhood Care and Development for the First 1000 Days (ECCD F1K) Program Expansion in Negros Occidental was held via Google Meet for 3 batches on September 7, 8, and 10, 2020, respectively.
To orient the recipient LGUs of the program’s background, objectives, components, operational details, and the LGU’s expected support and output, Ms. Dianne Kristine Cornejo, Nutrition Officer III of the Nutrition Policy and Planning Division of NNC Central Office was invited as Resource Person. The ECCD-F1K budgetary requirement was discussed by RNPC Nona B. Tad-y.

Iodine deficiency continues to be a nutrition challenge in the country. Iodine deficiency is a lack of the trace element iodine, an essential component of the thyroid hormones involved in the regulation of various enzymes and metabolic processes. Iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) include: Goiter, Mental retardation, Hypothyroidism, Cretinism, Increased morbidity and mortality of infants and impaired cognitive t development.
In Western Visayas, Iodine Deficiency Disorder (IDD) is prevalent in the provinces of Capiz& Guimaras, according to the 8th National Nutrition Survey of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI).

In the wake of observed low appreciation and use of iodized salt, there is a need for stronger advocacy and information and education campaigns, not only with the public but most especially with the producers.
In its recent online meeting, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Nona B. Tad-y recommended for a closer tie-up with local government units in the passing of revised or reformulated ordinances responsive to the situation of covid19.
“They have to be guided, not only requested, especially in revisiting existing ordinances,” Tad-y said, adding that when the situation warrants field visits, even the locations of local producers, and the ports where the salts are delivered, should be part of ocular monitoring.
