The Bacolod City Nutrition Committee conducted a Local Nutrition Action Plan Workshop on July 18 – 20, 2022 at the Masskara Hall, New Government Center, Bacolod City. Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Reginaldo T. Guillen and Nutrition Officer III Sheryl C. Sedantes of National Nutrition Council Region VI served as the resource persons in the workshop.

The Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) visited Escalante City, Negros Occidental on July 14-15, 2022 to conduct the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation or MELLPI Pro. The team assessed and reviewed various nutrition and nutrition-related reports/documents of the city and had a brief meeting with Mayor Hon. Melecio Yap which the latter presented the City’s initiative in providing food supplementation among its constituents through a Mobile Kitchen that delivers and serves hot meals daily. The City Nutrition Action Officer Hon. Rosario Mangalimutan, City Nutrition Program Coordinator Ms. Zephanie Doromal and Planning Officer III Mr. Arias also presented the City Development Plan and Annual Investment Plan where nutrition programs, plans, and activities were also integrated. MELLPI Pro activities not only assess the LGUs and LNFPs performances on nutrition program implementation but also provides technical assistance and suggestions/recommendations on how the LGU and nutrition workers could further improve and strengthen their performances as well as effectively manage nutrition program at the local level.

July 1, 2022- NNC Region VI in collaboration with the Provincial Nutrition Committee of the Province of Negros Occidental and City of San Carlos kicked-off the 2022 Nutrition Month Celebration with the theme “New Normal na nutrisyon, sama samang gawan ng solusyon!” at Marina Park, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. The activity was attended by mothers with children 0-59 months old, Barangay Nutrition Scholars and other barangay workers, and adjacent municipalities - Don Salvador Benedicto and Calatrava. Hon. Lawrence Marxlen J. de la Cruz, Mayor of Don Salvador Benedicto graced the event together with Provincial Health Officer II /Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, Dr. Jessica Fama, DNPC Glonie Suasin, Hon. Jose Villarante, Dr. Arniel Portuguez, CSWDO Cynthia Mirande, and CNPC Rowena Itabag. Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Reginaldo T. Guillen briefly discussed this year’s Nutrition Month focus “new normal na nutrisyon”. Distribution of Mannapack Rice, Mingo, Fresh Milk and Hand Liquid Soap to the attendees was the highlight of the event. NNC RVI will unceasingly promote and advocate for good nutrition in Western Visayas to ensure the nutritional well-being of the people and to contribute to the betterment of our country.

National Nutrition Council Region VI joined the Department of Health (DOH) Region VI Health Festival spearheaded by the LHSD Chief Dr. May Ann Sta. Lucia on July 11-12, 2022 at Robinsons Place Iloilo. DOH Region VI Regional Director Dr. Adriano P. Suba-an and Dr. Sophia Pulmones, Asst. Regional Director graced the said event. The two-day activity aims not only to advocate but also a service delivery event where other government agencies and stakeholders will be providing health and nutrition services to the mall shoppers. Drowning, Road Safety and Nutrition Month are the top priorities of the said event. World Drowning Day will be held on July 25 while Nutrition Month will be celebrated for the whole month of July.

National Nutrition Council Region VI provided technical assistance to the Province of Guimaras and its five municipalities (Buenavista, Jordan, Nueva Valencia, San Lorenzo, and Sibunag) to formulate their Provincial/Municipal Nutrition Action Plan. The activity is a 3-day workshop conducted at the Guimaras PHO Conference Room on June 15-17, 2022. RNPC Reginaldo T. Guillen, NO III Sheryl C. Sedantes, and NOI Roselle Eve Ferrer from NNC RVI served as the resource persons and assisted in the workshop.

On July 4, 2022, at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol lobby, RNPC Reginaldo T. Guillen and the NNC Region VI Staff attended the official launch of the provincial government of Iloilo's Nutrition Month with the theme "New Normal na Nutrisyon, Sama-Samang Gawan ng Solusyon". The activity was spearheaded by Dr. Maria Socorro Quinon, PHO II, and PNAO together with DNPC Leni Disin and Provincial Nutrition Staff. A Nutri-Funday Zumba, nutrition trivia, nutrition counseling on specific diets, a nutrition fair, food tasting, and a cooking demonstration of low-cost nutrition recipes were some of the activities as part of the event. Honorable Arthur R. Defensor, Governor, and Chair of the PNC pledge to continuously support and strengthen the nutrition program implementation in the province.
