Cebu City- The National Nutrition Council Region VII team evaluated its first two months' performance based on its defined activities in the 2023 work and financial plan. Said assessment was done during its second regional staff meeting held on 27 February 2023. As a recap, here are some of the activities conducted in January to February 2023.
The regional Program Implementation Review (PIR) for 2022 activities held on 9-10 January, examined the previous year's accomplishments where the team celebrated its positive performance and noted the areas needing improvement for implementation this year. This proceeded with a planning session for the major programs, projects, and activities for 2023 contributing to NNC’s organizational outcome.

Bohol Province – The Bohol Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) launched the Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program Phase 3 on 16 February 2023 simultaneously with the other provinces in Central Visayas. The launching event was conducted in collaboration with municipal LGUs included in the program.
Bohol province particularly the municipalities of Alburquerque, Baclayon, Bien Unido, Buenavista, Corella, Danao, Garcia Hernandez, Guindulman, Lila, Panglao, Pilar, Sikatuna, and Tubigon are included in the 180 days feeding program which is expected to improve the nutritional status of 780 children from these municipalities.

Cebu City – The National Nutrition Council Region VII sets its regional plans and targets for March 2023 as the team held its third regional staff meeting s. 2023 at the RNPC Room, NNC 7 Office, Cebu City on 27 February 2023.
Members of the regional nutrition policy and planning team, nutrition surveillance, nutrition information and education, administrative, and finance group of the regional office were present during the meeting which was presided by NNC 7 Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Parolita A. Mission.

Cebu City – Ideally, when a woman plans to conceive, she must undergo preparatory phases especially concerning her health and nutrition. The health condition of women in their reproductive age serves as the foundation for a safe and healthy pregnancy and fetal health. When she doesn’t receive adequate nourishment during this span, her risk for gestational and perinatal problems potentially increases, including the condition and survival of the fetus.
According to the data from WHO conferred in 2019, the global anemia prevalence was 29.9% in women of reproductive age, which was roughly equivalent to over half a billion women aged 15-49 years. In Central Visayas, according to the 2015 National Nutrition Survey, one out of 10 or 11.7% of women of reproductive age are anemic. Anemia refers to a condition wherein there is an insufficient number of red blood cells in the body, thus limiting the body’s oxygen-carrying capacity. The condition can be a result of nutritional deficiencies or chronic health conditions.

Cebu City – Members of the Central Visayas Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) convened on 23 February 2023, for its first full committee meeting for 2023. Presided by Department of Agriculture (DA) RFO 7 Chief for Administrative & Finance Division Mr. Melquiades B. Ibarra representing the RNC Vice Chair and DA RFO 7 RD Joel A. Elumba, the meeting was attended by 24 participants from 14 NGAs, NGOs, and reps LGUs.
Tackled during the meeting were the RNC Resolution on Enjoining LGUs to conduct local Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementary Program including the guidelines for local implementation, the schedule of the 2023 MELLPI Pro, the 2023 Nutrition Month Plan, and the 2023 Regional Nutrition Cluster Plan.

Cebu City – As the region’s highest policy-making body in nutrition, the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) passed a resolution approving local Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program (TKSP) guidelines. The said guideline was discussed and approved during the RNC Full Committee meeting held on 23 February 2023 at Hotel Elizabeth, Cebu City.
The RNC-Technical Working Group, the technical arm of RNC drafted said local policy generally patterned from the national guideline with provisions simplification of social preparation steps, prioritization process particularly expanding the criteria to include socio-demographics to respond to the common concerns of local implementers. The local guideline also puts a premium on complementary activities of the program also to ensure that families can be more empowered in their caring practices and increase their capacities to secure and procure food for the enrolled beneficiaries even after the conclusion of the program.
