Dumaguete City – The City Nutrition Office (CNO) of this city launched its yearlong nutrition services for city hall employees to address the rising cases of non-communicable diseases among them.
The service package was initiated by CNO under the leadership of its Nutrition Officer III Delia E. Serion in cooperation with the Human Resource Department who found out that most of the reasons for leave of absence filed by the employees were non-communicable diseases conditions like elevated uric acid and cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes, and diseases of the heart.

Cebu City – During the discussions of the first Regional Management Conference (Regional ManCon) held on 26-27 January 2023 at St. Mark Hotel, the nutrition movers of the local government units (LGUs) in Central Visayas were able to share their best practices for nutrition during the sessions.
Nutrition Officer III Ms. Delia E. Serion of Dumaguete City highlighted the support of the City’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office in funding the requirements for Nutrition in Emergency training of all barangays of the city. She further prided the nutrition interventions they are employing to all city hall employees of Dumaguete City to prevent and/or reduce the incidence of non-communicable diseases now threatening the government workers in this City of Gentle People.

Cebu City - Binge eating is the consumption of large quantities of food in a short period of time, typically as part of an eating disorder. What does it mean when you binge eat? Binge-eating disorder is a serious eating disorder in which you frequently consume unusually large amounts of food and feel unable to stop eating. Almost everyone overeats on occasion, such as having seconds or thirds of a holiday meal.
The binge eating episodes are associated with the following: Eating much more rapidly than normal, eating until feeling uncomfortably full, eating large amounts of food when not feeling physically hungry, and eating alone because of feeling embarrassed by how much one is eating.

Cebu City - Food allergy is an adverse immune–mediated reaction to food while food intolerances are an adverse reactions to a food or food additive that does not involve the immune system and results from the body’s inability to digest, absorb, or metabolize food or component of the food. Both are essential to understand for addressing its management.
Milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans are the major food allergens. On the other hand, one can experience food intolerance from dairy products, chocolates, eggs, and food additives.

Cebu City – The Central Visayas Association of Nutrition Action Officers (CeVANAO) Inc. and the Nutrition Program Coordinators’ Association of Region (NPCAR) 7 Inc. gathered on 27 January 2023 for their respective association meetings. The back-to-back meeting was held at St. Mark Hotel, Redemptorist Plaza, Cebu City.
CeVANAO, Inc. Executive Vice President and Carcar CNAO Dr. Ma. Felmar M. Deza presided the meeting attended by five Nutrition Action Officers. The meeting tackled the association workplan for 2023 that included 18th Congress of NAOs, 49th Nutrition Month special activity and advocacy to Provincial Nutrition Committees as well identifying Outstanding Local Nutrition Focal Points awardees.

Mandaue City - The Regional Bantay Asin Task Force 7 monitored the implementation of the salt iodization program in Central Visayas. The activity was held on 03 February 2023.
The Regional Bantay Asin Task Force (RBATF) 7 was formed to lead the advocacy towards the effective implementation of the Republic Act 8172 in Central Visayas. Ms. Girlie Vera Cruz – Libato of the University of San Carlos and Nutritionist Dietitian Association of the Phil. Cebu Chapter chairs the task force. RBATF 7 is tasked to formulate a Regional Salt Iodization Plan (SIP), and its operational plan, which is expected to cover the monitoring and the evaluation of the program in the region, coordinate and provide assistance among salt traders and manufacturers and formulate strategies which can effectively enhance public awareness on the use of quality iodized salt and proper storage of iodized salt in the different food service establishments, bakeries, and households in the region.
