Cebu City, Cebu – The National Nutrition Council Region VII conducted a two-batch Refresher Course Training for Local Nutrition Early Warning System – Food and Nutrition Security (LNEWS-FNS). The first batch was done last 10 – 11 November 2022 in Cebu City and was attended by the members of the core group and reps from the sentinel barangays of Buenavista and Pilar, Bohol and Carmen, Cebu. While the second batch of the training was held in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental and was attended by representatives from Alcantara, Cebu, Bais CIty, Negros Oriental and Dalaguete, Cebu on 24 – 25 November 2022.
LNEWS-FNS is a form of monitoring and analysis of important information that may foresee a possible crisis such as food shortage or health problem in the LGU and its nearby areas. The COVID-19 pandemic and the 2022 national elections both had an impact on many of the local nutrition committees covered by the program, which resulted in a rapid turnover of nutrition workers at the barangay level. The local nutrition implementers were able to reintroduce to the survey questionnaires and review the guidelines of interviewing.

Cebu City - The National Nutrition Council Region VII conducted the Local Nutrition Early Warning System – Food and Nutrition Security (LNEWS-FNS) Program Implementation Review (PIR). Central Visayas has 6 LNEWS-FNS areas namely the municipalities of Buenavista and Pilar in Bohol Province, the municipalities of Alcantara, Carmen, and Dalaguete from the province of Cebu, and Bais City in Negros Oriental.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, the country has undergone several changes in its food, nutrition, and economic environment which affect the community’s nutritional status. Any available data in the areas can provide qualitative and quantitative data to help understand the effects of COVID-19 on food accessibility, availability, and utilization in the region.

Bohol Province - The Provincial Nutrition Committee Secretariat under the supervision of DNPC Glenda G. Grafilo distributed Pinggang Pinoy and The First 1000 Days manual to the different municipalities in the province.
The First 1000 Days Manual was produced by the National Nutrition Council to guide health and nutrition workers in the delivery of nutrition interventions in this critical period of the child’s life. The term "first 1,000 days" describes a child's life from the time of conception until the child turns two years old (24 months). During this period, their immune system, body, and brain all significantly develop and grow. The health of the woman during pregnancy, her diet, and stress levels can affect the unborn child's destiny.

Cebu City - In the conduct of Operation Timbang (OPT) Plus in every local government unit (LGU), an OPT Plus team is organized at the municipal/city and the barangay level. The OPT Plus teams are established with the help of the City or Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (C/MNAO) to manage the conduct of OPT Plus.
The C/MNAOs, midwives, nurses, city/municipal/district nutrition program coordinators, and Human Resource for Health (HRH) will serve as the OPT plus supervisors for the municipality or city. They are responsible in facilitating the organization of the OPT plus team in the assigned areas or clusters. One of their roles is also to verify the viability of the tools to be used during the conduct of OPT, and check if the equipment is calibrated and/or verified.

Tagbilaran City – One hundred one participants from 46 local government units of Bohol province attended the first leg of the Central Visayas planning workshop on the integration of nutrition in the 2023-2025 LDP and 2023 AIP on October 13-14, 2022, at the Kew Hotel, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
Organized by the NNC 7, the said workshop helped with LGUs to finalize their nutrition action plans based on the priorities of their updated PDPFP, CDP, LDIP, and scaled up budget allocation for nutrition in their 2023 AIP with focus on the first 1000 days interventions.

Cebu City – As the COVID-19 situation in the country stabilizes so does the nutrition situation in Central Visayas as the health and nutrition systems gain a foothold back into the regular nutrition services, results of the 2022 Operation Timbang Plus shows.
Having spiked abnormally in the past two years, the nutrition situation in the region, as represented by the nutritional status of children 0-59 months, has finally stabilized, and returned to its normal course: a continued decrease in small but stable increments.
