Makati City – In order to ensure collection of timely, reliable, accurate and precise Operation Timbang (OPT) Plus data, the OPT Plus Team shall follow a proposed flow chart as embodied in the Manual of Operation in the conduct of OPT Plus. This was one of the topics discussed during the OPT Plus Manual of Operations training conducted on 12-16 December 2022 at Tiara Oriental Hotel, Makati City, of which NNC 7 attended.

The protocol of Operation Timbang Plus flowchart have five (5) major activities and should be strictly executed to obtain quality data. As part of the preparation, the barangays shall assign supervisor for the conduct of OPT plus.

Cebu City – NNC 7 wraps the first year of its first virtual program e-HISGOT on 15 December 2022, with a special Christmas episode.

e-HISGOT which stands for Educational Health and Nutrition Information-Sharing Geared TOwards DevelopmenT, is the region’s first virtual program aired monthly which encourages more netizens to adopt a healthy diet and an active lifestyle to prevent various diseases by raising awareness on the importance of proper nutrition.

The December episode revolves around a story of a fifty-five-year-old fireman named “Omar” who suffers from a benign lung tumor. Diagnosed early this year, Omar is also hypertensive and diabetic. Thus, he and his family decided for him to apply for an early retirement.

Talisay City, Cebu - The Child Nutrition Program was launched at Talisay Philippines Stake (diocese) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) on 22 October 2022. LDS is one of the members of the Scaling Up Nutrition Civil Society Alliance in Central Visayas.

The program aims to determine the nutritional status of the church children aged 0 to 60 months and identify and eradicate malnutrition in the locality. The nutrition program makes interventions to bring every child to a healthy status. The interventions aim to educate parents and expectant parents, especially mothers on the importance of proper nutrition for mothers and children.

Tanjay City – According to the 2018 Expanded National Nutrition Survey, two out of ten Filipino children are underweight, three out of ten are stunted and one out of twenty are wasted. These statistics have driven government and non-government agencies to converge efforts in addressing the triple burden of malnutrition. The Food and Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology has created different food technology to provide commercialized healthy food commodities.

One of the food technologies is the Rice – Mongo Blend (RMB). This 30-gram pack blend as streamlined in the FNRI-DOST page is said to meet the 15% of Recommended Energy and 27% Recommended Protein Intake for children aged 6 months to 24 months old. This product is comparable to commercially available items in terms of packaging. With a 1-year shelf-life, it only needs to be stored in a cool and dry place. It can easily be stored right?

Bohol Province – On 21–24 November 2022, the Bohol Provincial Nutrition Committee thru the provincial disaster risk reduction management office conducted a Nutrition in Emergency (NIE) and Information Management Training Workshop. This was held at Best Western Plus The Ivywall Resort-Panglao. The training workshop was attended by municipal health officers, nutrition action officers, and municipal DRRM officers. A total of 45 municipalities attended the training.

Nutrition Officer III Ms. Nasudi G. Soluta of NNC 7 with NDs II Ms. Sarah Belle Antiola and Ms. Annie Claire Anasco of DOH CV/CHD served as resource persons. The training was facilitated by the PNC secretariat led by DNPC Ms. Glenda G. Grafilo together with PNC staff Mr. Ryan Palma and Ms. Machiavia Luida Caliao. The funding requirement for the capacity building activity was handled by PDRMO headed by Dr. Anthony R. Damalerio.

Danao City – To put an end to the long drought of Outstanding BNSs from Central Visayas, the Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars’ Association (FeBANuSA) 7 Inc. aims to mentor possible candidates for outstanding BNSs in 2023.

Recognizing the need for technical assistance from other BNSs who could most empathize with the workload as well as provide good practices, this capacity-building activity aims to cover at least one promising candidate per province who will be coached by BNS presidents, most of whom were also awarded outstanding BNS honors in the past.
