CALL AGAINST MALNUTRITION | The National Nutrition Council (NNC), in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH), launches here in Cordillera the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) 3.0 Movement that aims to spur a whole-of-government and a whole-of-nation approach in addressing the malnutrition concerns that is being aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic and other present global challenges.

Via virtual platform, the Cordillera offices of NNC and DOH led a regional launching of the SUN that includes orientation about the global nutrition advocacy movement; a briefing on the nutritional situation in the region; the goal of SUN 3.0, its strategy and the roles of all stakeholders in addressing the problem on all forms of malnutrition in these trying times.

Event participants were also enjoined for an oath of commitment and virtual signing if pledge of support for the SUN 3.0 movement.

BNS 2nd Webinar cover articleIn observance to the National Breastfeeding Awareness Month celebrated every August, the Cordillera Barangay Nutrition Scholar Federation Association Inc. (CordiBNS Federation) in partnership with National Nutrition Council Cordillera Administrative Region (NNC-CAR) conducted a webinar on “Reskilling the Barangay Nutrition Committee: Tulong-tulong para sa first 1000 days of life,” to discuss the important key messages on breastfeeding, proper breastfeeding practices and to enlighten the roles of Barangay Nutrition Committee in the implementation of Infant and Young Child Feeding.

Over 550 participants composed of Barangay Nutrition Committee members, Nutrition Action Officers and other health workers across the region were imparted with knowledge and learnings by the resource speakers.

NNC CAR Web Ser 2022

The two-day 2022 Nutrition Month Webinar Series titled “Nutrisyon, Katuwang sa Pagbangon: Transitioning to a Better New Normal” organized by the National Nutrition Council-Cordillera Administrative Region (NNC-CAR) concluded on July 19, 2022 via Zoom.

With over 315 participants on Day 1 and over 260 participants on Day 2, the webinar series imparted knowledge and learning as topics relevant to this year’s Nutrition Month campaign were lectured on by esteemed Resource Speakers.

Stunting Reduction

There is a need to address the crisis of stunting in the country. Stunting, as stated by the World Health Organization (WHO), is one of the most significant impediments of human development. It is an outcome of inadequate nutrition and repeated bouts of infection during the First 1,000 days of life. It affects around 162 million children who are below 5 years old globally.

Stunting, or pagkabansot, is the percentage of children aged 0 to 59 years months (below 5 years old) whose height for age is below -2 standard deviations (moderate stunting) and -3 standard deviations (severe stunting) from the median of the World Health Organization Child Growth Standards. Simply put, it is being too short for one’s age.

NNC CAR Nut Car Jul

Over 160 Baguio locals and tourists were provided with free nutrition services during the one-day Nutrition Month Caravan held on July 23, 2022 at the Melvin Jones Grandstand. Said caravan was a collaboration between the Department of Health Center for Health Development-Cordillera Administration (DOH-CHD-CAR), National Nutrition Council (NNC)-CAR, and Nutritionist Dietitians’ Association of the Philippines-Baguio-Benguet Chapter (NDAP-BBC) in celebration of the 48th Nutrition Month.

NNC CAR MELLPI RNET

The Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) Pro in the region will commence next month, August 2022. This was firmed up by the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) members composed of representatives from the different Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) member agencies during the virtual 2022 MELLPI Pro for Provinces Orientation cum RNET Meeting held on June 3, 2022.
