A Refresher on Local Nutrition Program Planning (LNPP) was held at the Provincial Heath Office (PHO) in La Trinidad, Benguet on March 17, 2022. Organized by the National Nutrition Council (NNC)-CAR in partnership with the Benguet Provincial Nutrition Committee through the PHO, said refresher was participated by the Provincial/Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (P/MNAOs) and members of the Provincial/Municipal Nutrition Committees (P/MNCs) in the province.
The refresher was deemed necessary after the recognition that though the different nutritional status prevalence of the province falls below the regional target for each indicator, there is still a need for continuing strategic and purposive action to address the present nutrition problem. In Benguet in 2021, prevalence for stunting is at 5.97%, for overweight and obesity is 2.03%, for underweight is 1.47% and for wasted 0.59%.

The accomplishments of the Cordillera Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) Federation in 2021 were presented during the federation’s officers’ 1st virtual meeting held on February 28, 2022.
Last year, Cordi-BNS Federation was able to hold five meetings. The officers were also able to conduct three activities, namely BNS Program Orientation and Organizational Meeting, Zoom and eOPT Tool Orientation for BNS, and the BNS Virtual Congress. Cayat thanked all the officers for their contribution in the conduct and success of the activities and the National Nutrition Council-CAR for the support.

The D/CNPC-CAR Association officers and members discuss their upcoming activities for the year. Their first activity is the 1st Quarter Webinar of the "Upskilling for Nutrition Upscaling" webinar series.
The District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators-Cordillera Administrative Region (D/CNPC-CAR) Association convened on February 8, 2022 via zoom to discuss their upcoming activities for this year.
The association, in partnership with the National Nutrition Council-CAR, has set to conduct “Upskilling for Nutrition Upscaling”, a webinar series which aims to upscale the capabilities of nutrition workers in providing health and nutrition services. The webinar series will be held every quarter. For the first quarter, the webinar series is scheduled on February 18, 2022 (1:00pm-4:00pm) in which the Nutrition Action Officers from the region were also invited. The topics to be discussed for the 1st quarter webinar are on nutrition devolution and mental health.

The CARMENu officers and members plan their 2022 nutrition promotion activities during their meeting on February 22, 2022 at G1Lodge in Baguio City.
Baguio City - Cordillera Administrative Region Media Educators on Nutrition (CARMENu) planned three major nutrition promotion activities for 2022 during their first meeting on February 22, 2022 at G1Lodge, Baguio City. Said meeting was presided by Ms. Rose Malekchan, CARMENu president and attended by 9 CARMENu members.
Three major activities of the organization, namely the NutriPasada, Food, Health and Nutrition (FHN) Webinar and Nutri-Jingle Contest were presented and discussed during the meeting.

During the Philippine Heart Month, we are reminded to take care of our heart health to prevent developing cardiovascular diseases.
The month of February is declared as “Philippine Heart Month” by virtue of Proclamation No. 1096, s. 1973. This is to raise awareness and attend with urgency to the growing prevalence of heart cases among Filipinos.
According to the World Health Organization (2020), around 50,000 people per year succumb to cardiovascular disorders (CVDs), making CVDs the leading cause of death in the Philippines. Smoking, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and high cholesterol level are some of the risk factors that usually cause heart attacks and strokes.

The monthly 'Nutri-Challenge' on NNC-CAR's Facebook page will begin in March. The contest aims to advocate for and promote good nutrition among Filipinos.
To maximize the vast reach of social media specifically Facebook and to extend its advocacy to more audiences, the National Nutrition Council-Cordillera Administrative Region (NNC-CAR) conceptualized the monthly ‘Nutri-Challenge’, an online contest that will run on the agency’s Facebook page from March to December.
The monthly ‘Nutri-Challenge’ aims to inspire and encourage Filipinos to adopt a healthier lifestyle by parading healthy lifestyle practices of netizens, boost awareness on nutrition concepts and strategies such as the First 1000 Days, Complementary Feeding, Pinggang-Pinoy, etc. by soliciting real-life experiences from netizens, and advocate for and promote good nutrition through fun and engaging ways.
