b 275 220 2734 0   images aricLAGAWE, IFUGAO – AUGUST 20, 2014 “Barya Mo Para Sa Kalusugan Ko” project of the Provincial Government of Ifugao has decreased malnutrition cases in the province.

Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Mary Jo P. Dulawan said that the project together with other local initiatives helped lowering the malnutrition rate of Ifugao to 2.37 percent in 2014.

The Office of the Provincial Nutrition Led by Ms. Corazon P. Dawong, the frontline in the implementation of the project has collected P 13, 194.00 in 2013 from various donors. The collected amount was used in their feeding program. Collection boxes and can were placed in government offices, business establishments, associations and other stakeholders.

For this year, there are still 557 identified severe and underweight children in the province who need help.

The positive implementation of the project last year inspired the provincial nutrition office to duplicate the fundraising activity this year which culminated early this month of August with a collection of more than P15, 000.00. The PNO decided to end the project due to the availability of resources to support the nutrition program courtesy of SN ABOITIZ MAGAT and Bethesda feeding program.

Dr. Dulawan greatly appreciated the support and dedication of all donors to the “Barya Mo Para Sa Kalusugan Ko” project.

The National Nutrition Council-Cordillera Administrative Region Office led by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Ms. Rita D. Papey appreciated the aggressive implementation and monitoring of various nutrition programs down to the barangay level of Ifugao.

Members of the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) enhanced their assessment skills during an orientation and planning for the 2015 Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) at the Pines View Hotel.

In preparation for the upcoming monitoring and evaluation, the team was oriented on MELLPI guidelines, updates and monitoring protocol, which provide insights and ideas on various validation techniques when conducting desk review of documents or interviews with local partners, conducting visits to project sites, and appropriate behavior as regional monitors.

Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Rita D. Papey said only areas with nutrition action plans can vie for the award as outstanding municipality in a province or region, outstanding city, and outstanding province.

However, the RNET visits provinces, municipalities, and barangays with no nutrition action plan for monitoring and technical assistance.

The evaluation will start on the second week of April and ends May 31.

MELLPI is a monitoring and evaluation system established in 1979 by the National Nutrition Council to assess the efficiency of local nutrition program implementation, measures changes in the nutritional status of children, determine the extent to which nutrition is integrated into local development plans and programs, and advocate for the continuing support for local nutrition programs.

Meanwhile, Candice Willy of the Department of Health and Eddison Baddal of the Department of Interior and Local Government were elected as this year’s RNET chair and vice chair, respectively, the NNC as the secretariat.

b 543 220 2734 0   images Picture1The National Nutrition Council-CAR facilitated two sequential workshops for the Regional Technical Assistants on Nutrition (RTAN) and for the Regional Nutrition Cluster last August 2-4, 2014 at Leisure Coast, Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City. The workshops aimed to identify activities to be participated by the RTAN or the TWG members of the Regional Nutrition Committee to reduce malnutrition in the region and to establish nutrition cluster that will respond to the nutrition concerns during disasters and emergencies.

Discussion on the legal mandates on nutrition, review of the 2011-2016 Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition and analysis of the regional nutrition situationer helped the RTAN members in formulating the RTAN Technical Assistance plan for LGUs particularly for areas with high undernutrition prevalence. Moreover, Regional Nutrition Cluster member representatives were oriented on the operation of the disaster risk reduction and management system in region by the presentations of team from the Office of Civil Defence-CAR led by Dir. Andrew Alex H. Uy. The participants discussed the roles and responsibilities of the nutrition cluster and identified some capacity building activities to be undertaken as part of disaster preparedness for the local nutrition clusters as well as the regional nutrition cluster to be undertaken as part of disaster preparedness.

Participants of the workshops were the focal persons on nutrition from the different regional line agencies.

BAGUIO CITY, April 20 (PIA) -- The Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) and the National Nutrition Council (NNC) recently came up with the guidelines on the good practices on nutrition award that recognizes the outstanding achievement and contributions of various stakeholders in addressing malnutrition problems and at the same time promoting good nutrition among their respective target clientele.

Regional Nutrition Coordinator Rita Papey said though the best practice on nutrition award is essentially accorded to local government units , the guidelines include programs or activities of non-government organizations, national government agencies and other private institutions with significant contributions in nutrition improvement of their clientele.

Criteria for identifying best practices include the following: uniqueness/originality/innovative in nature, relevance, effectiveness, completeness of supporting documents, efficiency, sustainability, and client or community involvement.

Entries for the search will be by nomination either by other party or by self-nomination. After validation of the entries, the result will be presented to the RNC for approval.

Lagawe, Ifugao, the National Nutrition Council-Cordillera Administrative Region in partnership with the Cordillera Administrative Region-Media Educators on Nutrition (CAR-MENu) and the Municipality of Lagawe, Ifugao conducted the Broadcasters’ Training for Radio Kiphodan Council last September 24 to 25, 2014 at the Community Development Conference (CDC) Multi-purpose Hall, Municipal Health Office (MHO) Building, Lagawe, Ifugao. The thirty-two participants were composed of the Radio Kiphodan Council, the Radyo Kiphodan staff, representatives from the different provincial and municipal offices and representative of the Barangay Nutrition Scholar Municipal Federation. Speakers of the training were Mr. Joseph Manzano and Mr. Dexter See who shared their expertise in a practical and coherent manner.

The activity aims to capacitate, enhance, and strengthen the Radio Kiphodan Council in order to effectively and efficiently manage Radyo Kiphodan. The said radio station is a community radio established by the National Nutrition Council in partnership with the municipal government of Lagawe, Ifugao in 2008 and it is one of the two community radio stations in the Cordillera.

Participants were able to come up with an enhanced radio program with more participation from the various sectors or offices of the municipality and the province of Ifugao.

According to Budget Officer of Lagawe and chairperson of Radio Kiphodan Council Magdalena Namingit, the council will meet to finalize the proposals of the participants through a resolution.
