SAN MATEO, ISABELA – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office No. 02 reintroduces a local bean, the Mung bean or locally known as mungo.
In his speech during the launching of the Complementary Food Products in the municipality recently, Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI-DOST) Director Mario V. Capanzana enumerated the various benefits of mungo. It does not only generate employment to the locality, he said, but also gives many health benefits as she encouraged San Mateoans to produce their own local products.
San Mateo, Isabela is known to be the Mungo Capital of the Philippines. Mungo, according to San Mateo Vice Mayor Roberto C. Agcaoili, is their black gold which is also the main ingredient of the complementary foods they produce in the center.

Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon members recorded a rap version of Pinggang Pinoy last April 24, 2016 with the participation of Tuguegarao West Central School pupils at DWPE Radyo ng Bayan.
BRSN was established to promote and educate the community about the issue against malnutrition. It also provides a rational way of communicating to people thru radio broadcasting. It also catches the attention of the listeners to build awareness by listening to the messages given. Being part of BRSN, it plays an important role to the people in encouraging healthy eating habits and to propagate mass nutrition information and updates.
By creating a rap version of Pinggang Pinoy, the plate-based food guide was now simple and easy to understand. It emphasizes the right meal for a person to consume per day and the body’s energy nand utrient needs.

Regional Bantay ASIN Task Force (RBATF) Region 02 halted and sent back to origin a total 0f 69, 111Kgs of inadequately iodized Salt in 2015 and 25, 000 Kgs in first quarter of 2016 through its strengthened Bantay Asin Checkpoint situated in Sta. Fe, Nueva Vizcaya.
According to Mr. Orlando Pichay, Head of Sta. Fe Bantay Asin Checkpoint, most of the shipments came from Pangasinan area, which is known for their massive salt production. However, noticeably the largest violator in 2015, 15,000 kgs in November, was from Arvin International Marketing Incorporation. Moreover, the 25, 000kgs reported in 2016 was also from Arvin International Marketing Incorporation, hence, the RBATF R-02 through Department of Health-Food and Drug Administration Region 02 (DOH-FDA R-02) will conduct a salt visitation in the said corporation to review and monitor their salt production and salt iodization processes.

The National Nutrition Council Region 2 in collaboration with the LGU Qurino successfully recorded the rap version of Pinggang Pinoy at the province of Quirino last April 21, 2016.
The promotion of good nutrition through prints and broadcasting ignited awareness among the populace which paved way for healthy food choices and desirable eating habits. And to ensure continuous dissemination and promotion of good nutrition, the innovation of media plugging in a more creative way was considered.
The recording of the said media plug was participated by the talented Batang Radyo members of Quirino with their respective coaches through the efforts and coordination of Ms. Luningning Rhodes, Nutrition Officer 3 of Quirino province and the members of the Balay ni IFAN Media Group Mr. Domingo Fuggaban and Ms. Martina Macapia.

Regional Nutrition Council Region 02 in their First Quarter Regional Nutrition Committee Meeting last March 8 in DA CVRC come up with to resolutions to be passed this year.
Resolution Adopting The Healthy Food Plate For Filipino Adults –Pinggang Pinoy of the National Nutrition Council and Resolution Adopting the First 1000 Days of A Child’s Life to Ensure Good Nutrition of The National Nutrition Council Region II were drafted by the members of RNC R-02. In addition, members of RNC input and make suggestion in the two resolutions before officially pass it.
The meeting headed by National Nutrition Council Region Nutrition Program Coordinator, Ms. Rhodora G. Maestre, in behalf of RNC President Dr. Milagros Morales because she was out for official meeting in the same day.
On the other hand, members of RNC also discussed their 2016 Action plan, Mellpi Schedules for 2016 and Time slot of the Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon Program. Lastly, NPC Maestre gave Nutrition Update to the Participants focusing in First 1000 days of Child’s Life and Pinggang Pinoy.

Barangay Nutrition Scholar Federation Officers participated in the 1st quarterly meeting of Cagayan Valley Barangay Nutrition Scholars Federation in Kainang Pilipino, Tuguegarao City last April 5.
The Barangay Nutrition Scholars are volunteer workers in their respective municipality to implement health and nutrition programs. The BNS helps to monitor and to identify pregnant women, lactating mothers and malnourished children who are in need of such services.
Ms. Mercedes Cara, BNS Federation Preseident, presided the conduct of the meeting and laid out the agenda for the said meeting.
Ma. Gisella Lonzaga, Nutrition Officer III, discussed the nutrition programs and updates in the said meeting. She presented the First 1000 Days, Scaling Up Nutrition, MELLPI 2016, and Nutrition Cluster El Niño Bulletin No. 1.
Rhodora G. Maestre, Nutrition Officer III, presented the results of MDG and the MELPPI proposed adjustments to local level to the participants.
