The National Nutrition Council (NNC) R02 has expanded the membership of the ‘Balay Ni Ifan’ media task force as its linkage for a wider information and advocacy thrust.
The ‘Balay Ni Ifan’, which was organized in 2009 and composed of local media practitioners from government and private media outfits in this region, tasked to do massive education and promotion campaigns on nutrition programs.
Maria Gisela Lonzaga, OIC-nutrition program coordinator, said the team started with just a few members to include the Philippine Information Agency-Cagayan, PBS-Radyo ng Bayan, FBN-DZCV, DZYT-Sonshine Radio, RBC Cable Master, Clearview Cable Television, RPN-DZTG, and Northern Forum.
She said two Nutriskwela community radio stations in Claveria, Cagayan (Radyo Kalugaran) and Basco, Batanes (Radyo Kavayvayan) were earlier installed to further help the agency disseminate its programs and campaigns.
This year, Lonzaga and members of Balay ni IFAN agreed to expand their partnership to other radio stations in Sta Teresita, Sta Ana, Gonzaga and Aparri, Cagayan, Echague, Isabela and Bayombong Nueva Vizcaya.

The Cagayan Valley Barangay Nutrition Scholars Federation Inc. (CVBNSF Inc.) in partnership with the National Nutrition Council, (NNC) Region 02 held the 2nd Regional Barangay Nutrition Scholars Congress last December 2, 2016 at the Community Center, Centro Poblacion, City of Ilagan, Isabela.
The activity was attended by One Thousand Six Hundred Eighty (1680) BNSs from as far as the island of Itbayat, Batanes, the mountain municipalities of Kasibu, Alfonso Castaneda and Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya and the coastal areas of Palanan, and Dinapigue, Isabela.

Nutrition Month Celebration is the yearly campaign held in most institutions and agecies every month of July to create greater awareness on Nutrition among Filipinos.
The culmination of the Nutrition month activity of John Wesley College, the Department of Agriculture Child Development and Learning Center and the municipality of Sta. Praxedes were conducted last July 27-29 respectively.
The participants of the Sta. Praxedes celebration were component of barangays with their Barangay captains, students from elementary and secondary, parents, and LGUs. However, the celebration of the John Wesley College and Department of Agriculture was participated by both parents and elementary pupils and was facilitated by the school teachers and officials to draw attention to nutrition education and to emphasize the importance of being a healthy person. It also help the parents especially lactating mothers and mothers with below 2 years old children to exclusively breastfeed their babies and to have a complementary feeding practices. This observes that they will know the significance of good maternal nutrition and proper infant and young child feeding practices.

The National Nutrition Council Region 02 (NNC R-02) conducted a five-day training on Nutrition Program Management for Nutrition Workers last September 12-16, 2016 at Hotel Veniz, Baguio City.
In attendance were 24 participants: 6 from the province of Nueva Vizcaya, 8 from Isabela, 5 from Quirino and 5 from Cagayan. Participants were newly-designated or appointed Nutrition Officers and Municipal Nutrition Action Officers in their respective municipality.
With 4 resource speakers: Nutrition Program Coordinator Rhodora G. Maestre of NNC R02, Ms. Ma Gisela Lonzaga, Nutrition Officer III of NNC R02, Ms. Luningning Rhodes, Nutrition Officer IV of PHO Quirino ,Ms. Nancy Castro, Nutrition Officer II of Nueva Vizcaya and 2 secretariat.
NPC Maestre inspired the Nutrition worker participants with her salutation for their good performance and services. She also gave a lecture regarding ”First 1000 days ni baby pahalagahan para sa malusog na kinabukasan” and Scaling Up Nutrition.

TUGUEGARAO CITY-The National Nutrition Council and MQ Mediazone conducted a four-day refresher training on 18-21 July 2016, in partnership with the Community Radio Council (CRC) of the Nutriskwela Community Radio Station Radyo Kalugaran.
Refresher training on Nutriskwela Community Radio broadcasting and radio operations aims to improve capabilities and skills on radio programming and operations of those who are involved in Radio Kalugaran but not have been trained whens the radio station was established.
With the help of Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program, it targets to empower communities to disseminate correct, current and relevant nutrition, health, education and development information from all concerned sectors.
Nutrition Program Coordinator Rhodora G. Maestre, NNC R02, shared an inspirational messages through explaining how vital radio is and how it can influence the public in our everyday lives. Further she acknowledged the Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon as innovation of the station and at the same time as a way of molding young broadcasters.

The National Nutrition Council Region 02 (NNC R-02) spearheaded a five-day training on Basic Course for Barangay Nutrition Scholars of the coastal areas: Maconacon, Divilacan, Dinapigue and Palanan and the municipality of Quezon, Mallig and Sto. Tomas at Japi Traveller’s Hotel Cauayan City, Isabela last August 22- 26 and a locally funded training which is ongoing in Santiago City, Isabela this August 29- September 2.
In attendance were 67 participants: 30 BNSs attended in Cauayan City and 37 BNSs from Santiago City.
The training course aims to improve the capabilities and core competencies of the Barangay Nutrition Scholars in order to perform their roles and functions.
