The Philippine Plan of Action on Nutrition has been launched on May 02, 2017 in Iloilo City. The Department of Agriculture as a partner agency of the National Nutrition Council of Region 02 through its educational radio station DWDA Radyo Pangkaunlaran fully supports its implementation.
In order to drumbeat the plan for the PPAN implementation, DWDA airs regularly broadcast materials such as jingles and spots to ensure the awareness among stakeholders, the “Pinakbet, Mango and Rice” jingles are regularly aired in the regular programs of the station from 5:00 Am to 5:00 Pm from Monday to Saturday.

The Regional Nutrition Committee extends assistance to Ivatans through the conduct of the Regional Nutrition Committee Caravan last 14 June 2017 at the Provincial Ground, Basco, Batanes.
As a kick off activity, walk for life at 5:00 in the morning was conducted around Basco proper. It was participated by Regional and Provincial Nutrition Committee members, Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, BHWs, BNSs, Senior Citizens and staff of Local Government Unit of the province of Batanes.
Series of activities were conducted simultaneously by the RNC, the DOST conducted demonstration and distribution of ceramic water filters to the mothers of 6-24 months old young children. PhilHealth distributed umbrellas to the number of Senior Citizen of Batanes and enrolled them to PhilHealth as they gave information about the benefits of being enrolled in the program. DOLE also conducted Labor and Human Relation seminar to their target establishments and their employees.

City of Ilagan, Isabela -- Department of Health Secretary Paulyn Jean B. Ubial surprised city officials and residents of Ilagan when she personally attended the ceremonial opening of a drug rehabilitation facility here on Tuesday, June 6, 2017.
“The newly opened Treatment Rehabilitation Center is a partnership between the City Government of Ilagan and the Department of Health. “The space where the building stands was provided by the city government, including a one-kilometer paved access road,” according to City Mayor Mudz C. Diaz, who is a Registered Physical Therapist and a Nurse.
Located at Barangay Centro San Antonio, the DoH-TRC is now operational with resident doctor, nurses and counsellors attending the needs of drug dependents. The facility is managed by DoH-R02.

The Regional Nutrition Committee chaired by the Department of Health Region 02 held its 2nd Quarter Nutrition Committee Meeting cum Team building last 13 June 2017 at the Department of Agriculture- Batanes Experiment Station Conference Room and Pahanevnevan Beach Resort in Basco, Batanes.
The activity was attended by 44 participants, coming from the Regional and Provincial Nutrition Committee members, Nutrition Action Officers and Nutrition Officers from the different provinces of the region.
The RNC also invited the members of the PNC and Municipal Nutrition Action Officers of Batanes to participate in the activities.
The RNC Meeting cum Team Building activities aimed to build camaraderie, improve communication, develop collective strategies, and establish trust among its members.
During the RNC meeting, Dr. Leticia Cabrera, Medical Officer V of DOH R02 presented the prototype streamer design and the RNC’s tentative plan of activities for the 43rd Nutrition Month Celebration. She also discussed the plans and activities for the regional launch of the PPAN 2017-2022 on 26 July 2017 in Cauayan City, Isabela.
OIC NPC Maria Gisela Lonzaga, presented the PPAN 2017-2022, NNC Memorandum on the full implementation of NNC GB Resolution No. 4 S. 2012, Adopting the under-five age group to describe child undernutrition in the Philippines, Revised color code of the Spot map. OIC Lonzaga also presented the RNC Accomplishment for Jan-June 2017 and RNC Plans for July- December 2017. The results of the Search for Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars was likewise presented.

Balay ni Ifan
Regional media groups organized by the National Nurition Council from the different parts of the country had finally met each other for the first time during the launching of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition or PPAN 2017-2022 in Iloilo City on May 02, 2017.
These brothers and sisters came in flocks to show support and pledge anew their commitment to the PPAN, as the country’s blueprint of actions for nutrition improvement.
In her speech, Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Ubial stressed the need to address the ‘ticking bomb’ in the country—the problem on stunting—which the media can help address through their pen and paper, and their recorders and microphones.
She noted that with all the events and conflicts besetting the country, the media should not also forget to report one of the oldest battles that the government has been trying to win over the years…and that is malnutrition.
She enjoined every Ifan during the PPAN launch to lead the loud voice of nutrition amidst the noise of all that is happening in the country, as she believes in the power and influence of the Fourth Estate on people.

BASCO, BATANES -------To re-enforce the knowledge, skills, and technical capability of young broadcasters in radio broadcasting, to develop role models in practicing and promoting good nutrition and to enhance camaraderie among members of Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon, Batanes were the objectives of the recently conducted Batanes Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon re-enforcement training at Provincial Health Office Training Room, Basco, Batanes last 14 June 2017.
A total of twenty-seven (27) Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon members and coaches underwent to series of lectures and workshops design to enhance the ability of the young broadcasters in term of news writing, reporting and scriptwriting. Mr. John Nestor Ballad, Nutrition Officer II-NNC R02, discussed the said lectures and radio simulation workshop.
