MeetingNational Nutrition Council together with members of Cagayan Valley Nutrition Action Officer and District/ City Nutrition Program Coordinator Federation conducted their first semester meeting last March 8 in Department of Agriculture Cagayan Valley Research Center, San Felipe, City of Ilagan, Isabela.


Dr. Rosarita Mariano, President of CVNAO and PNAO of Isabela, warmly welcomed the participants as the host province for the said meeting. Meanwhile, Ms. Rhodora G. Maestre stressed in her opening remarks her appreciation for the members of both federations. She also said that their willingness and commitment to the federation should continue for the next years in order to attain their objectives and plans.

Cua has vowed full support to the newly-launched radio program of the school children of Diffun Central School and Cabarroguis Central School dubbed, “Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon.”

Speaking at the recent launching of the said program at Radyo ng Bayan, 92.1 DWQP-FM, I Love Quirino Radio, Cua thanked the National Nutrition Council for bringing the program to the province saying it will not only hone the broadcasting skills of the children but it is also a big boost in the nutrition program of the province.

“We will continue to provide full support to the program and we will be providing a timeslot for it in our radio station.

For his part, station manager Dr. Marcelino Delson, Jr. said that the airing of the program is very much welcome at DWQP-FM adding that the community radio has been established as a medium of providing information to the people regarding the different programs and projects of the government.


NPC Maestre discuss to the participant the NNC R-02 accomplishments of 2015 and 2016 TargetsNational Nutrition Council Region 2 (NNC-R02) joined the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) on their CY 2016 Planning and target Setting Workshop with the participation of the various local government units in the province of Quirino and Nueva Viscaya at Orquidia Beach Resort, Sta. Ana, Cagayan last January 15.

BFAR Regional Director Dr. Milagros C. Morales showed her appreciation for the complete attendance of the participant and agencies.

Part of the program was the presentation of other agencies programs, projects and activities on Fisheries on which NNC Region 2 thru NPC Rhodara Maestre lectured on Pinggang Pinoy and 10 Kumainments as a way of promoting good nutrition to the fisher folks.

NPC Maestre emphasized the importance of 10 Kumainments and Pinggang Pinoy as simple and easy to remember guidelines that can be easily followed by the participants to improve their nutritional status. 10 Kumainments echos on messages like “Kumain ng iba’t ibang pagkain”, “Kumain ng gulay at prutas araw-araw”, and “Panatilihin ang tamang timbang”, the participants are encouraged to eat the right foods, exercise regularly and pursue a healthy lifestyle in 10 easy rule. On the other hand, Pinggang pinoy, serves as visual tool to help the participants adopt healthy eating habits at meal times by delivering effective dietary and healthy lifestyle messages. It is a new, easy-to-understand food guide that uses a familiar food plate model to convey the right food group proportions on a per-meal basis to meet the body's energy and nutrient needs of adults was the last potion of the lecture.

Ms. Nusha Coudcury IPC Asia Coordinator giving her opening speechNational Nutrition Council Region 2 together with other NNC Regional Offices, NGOs and Central Government offices convened in the recent orientation-workshop on chronic food insecurity(CFI) analysis on 26-29 January 2016 in Tagaytay City.


The orientation-workshop, funded by NNC provided the participants information on the updated IPC (IPC)-CFI Indicators Reference Table and the latest version of the Information Support System (ISS). The workshop groups also completed 3 of the 6 steps in IPC-CFI analysis namely: step 1: Context analysis, step 2: Evidence repository and step 3: Identification of Non-Exceptional Circumstances.

In his brief audience with Nutrition Program Coordinator, Rhodora G. Maestre, Luningning P. Rhodes, Nutrition Officer III, and Broadcaster Ding Fugaban, the BRSN Training Director, Cua assured the National Nutrition Council on the use of the newly installed Community Radio DWQP, 92.1 FM in Cabbaroguis Capitol town for the weekly Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon program.


Meanwhile, Thirty Elementary Radio Broadcast applicants for Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon underwent rounds of audition at the Cabarroguis Central School and Diffun Central School last January 28-29 under the scrutiny of Broadcasts Fugaban and NPC Maestre.


Maestre said twenty new Batang Radyo members, ten from each school will compose the BRSN Quirino group while Ten became observers.

NPC Maestre with other stakeholders during the Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon Tuguegarao City initial airing at DWPE Radyo ng BayanThe National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region 2 launched the “Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon” program, February 7, 2016 at DWPE – Radyo ng Bayan, Tuguegarao City with the cooperation of the Batang Radyo members of Tuguegarao East Central School and Tuguegarao West Central School.


The launching was also participated by the different government agencies who were members of Nutritional Coordinating Committee (RNC) for the region through their Regional Technical Assistant of Nutrition (RTAN). The Batang Radyo program aired every Sunday from 12:30pm to 1:00pm.


The program objective is to maximize the broadcasting skills of elementary student while creating awareness on nutrition among school children and general populace.
The launching started with a short program for briefing and orientation then followed by the actual radio programming.
