Mayor Brioso has started the fight for better services for pregnant women by making available 24/7 the municipality’s ambulance to ferry and bring would-be delivering pregnant women from the coastal and mountainous parts of the municipality to the lying-in clinics and to Libmanan District Hospital. He also said that a new Rural Health Unit, the 3rd one in the municipality, will soon be constructed with funding support from the LGU. The National Nutrition Council Bicol continuously promotes exclusive breastfeeding to achieve the overall goal of reducing undernutrition among the children. This is in support to Republic Act 10028, otherwise known as “Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009”, that mandates all health and non-health facilities, establishments or institutions, including public places to establish or provide breastfeeding stations for lactating women/nursing mothers or workers.
The Regional Nutrition Committee passed RNC Resolution No. 1, series 2015 on 23 July 2015, “Requesting the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region V to issue a Directive/Circular requiring All Bus Operators in the Bicol Region to designate a Breastfeeding Seat/BF Corner inside their buses and terminals” in support to RA 10028. To facilitate its implementation, NNC RO V requested NEDA Social Development Committee during its 6 May 2016 to endorse the same resolution to Regional Development Council (RDC).

Imagine that you’re a mother exclusively breastfeeding your baby and travelling to another place to visit. Many mothers find it difficult to continue breastfeeding while travelling unless they have their own vehicle or there is a nearby place to drop-by so they can breastfeed their baby. How about a mother waiting to ride a bus or a jeepney at a terminal yet she needs to breastfeed her baby? When in Naga City, worry no more because of the LGU’s initiative to provide a specific area for breastfeeding or lactating mothers.
On 1 March 2016, the Naga City Nutrition Committee led by Mayor John G. Bongat in collaboration with the City Population and Nutrition Office (CPNO) opened to the public the breastfeeding center located at the Bicol Central Station (BCS). The inauguration of the breastfeeding center highlights the significance of a specific area or place where breastfeeding can be continuously practiced even in a public place without compromising the privacy of lactating mothers.
