Iloilo – Cheques for the Early Childhood Care and Development in the First 1000 Days (ECCD F1K), one of the priority programs of the National Nutrition Council (NNC), have been received by the different target areas in Iloilo.
The NNC targeted 10 provinces with the highest magnitude of poverty nationwide to be the recipients of the ECCD F1K. In Iloilo, there are 3 municipalities (Concepcion, Pototan and Tigbauan) and 1 city (Passi City) selected as target areas.

Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) of Zarraga, Iloilo led by Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) and Vice Mayor Ma. Jofel Soldevilla and the Zarraga Multi-Purpose Cooperative, organized a BNS refresher activity for the 26 Barangay Nutrition Scholars of Zarraga last June 16, 2017 which was facilitated by the National Nutrition Council (NNC), Region VI.
Nutrition Program Coordinator (NPC) Nona B. Tad-y, together with 3 other staff of NNC Region 6 led the refresher course/workshop where the BNSes were asked to express their challenges encountered in the field, solutions undertaken and their recommendations.

The National Nutrition Council Region 6 and the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) officially started its annual Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition in different cities and municipalities within Western Visayas.
Areas that were already visited include Kabankalan City, Sipalay City, San Carlos City and Sagay City. More areas are in line for MELLPI visit of the RNET.

The Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022, the country’s blueprint for nutrition interventions, was officially launched last Tuesday, May 2, in Iloilo City.
PPAN 2017-2022 was presented by the Executive Director of the National Nutrition Council, Assistant Secretary of Health Maria-Bernardita T. Flores, which was followed by the symbolic turning over to stakeholders, led by Health Secretary Paulyn Jean B. Rosell-Ubial.
Health Secretary Ubial noted PPAN as the driving force that will either make or break the future of the next generation of Filipinos. She also quoted former Socio-Economic Planning Secretary Cielito F. Habito who likened the 33% prevalence of stunting in children as an invisible and silent time bomb that is slowly ticking. Sec. Ubial In 15-20 years, these stunted children if they survived, will enter the workforce and instead of driving the engine of the economy, will become the burden of society.

In Western Visayas, 3 provinces were successfully analyzed during the IPC Chronic Food Insecurity Workshop Round 3 at Asian Institute of Management, Makati City, last March 20-24, 2017.
The provinces include Iloilo, Negros Occidental and Capiz. Guimaras and Aklan were also included in the list of provinces to be analyzed, however, due to lack of valid data for analysis, their results were considered invalid. Antique, on the other hand, was not analyzed at all due to lack of supporting data.
The facilitators of the workshop were: Mr. Feroz Ahmed, IPC Regional Trainer and Data Analyst for Asia; Ms. Nusha Choudhury – IPC Regional Coordinator for Asia; Ms. Hygeia Ceres Catalina Gawe - Chair, Nutrition Surveillance Division, NNC; Ms. Leah M. Felismino - IPC National Data Analyst, FAO Philippines; and Mr. Edwin Lavapie – IT Officer I, Nutrition Surveillance Division, NNC.

National Nutrition Council is set for the National Launching of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022, the country’s blueprint for nutrition actions to improve the nutrition situation in the country, on May 2, in Iloilo City.
The launching activity will be led by the Secretary of Health Paulyn Jean Ubial together with the Asec. Of Health and the Executive Director of NNC Maria-Bernardita T. Flores. Other members of the NNC Governing Board will also be present in the said activity which will be followed by the NNC GB meeting.
