Thirty-seven participants attended the 1st Quarterly Meeting of Provincial/City Nutrition Action Officers, District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators and Barangay Nutrition Scholars conducted on March 7, 2019 at Punta Villa Resort, Arevalo, Iloilo City by the National Nutrition Council (NNC), Region VI.

Discussed during the meeting were 2019 NNC Work and Financial Plan, Nutrition Situation Update Report 2019 (OPT Plus 2018) to present the status of preschool children, Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) – Pro and Overview of Assistance to BNSs. Also, taken up were updates on ECCD-F1K, Nutrition in Emergencies and LGU Mobilization Workshop for 36 PPAN Priority Areas (May-July).

The National Nutrition Council, Region VI conducted its 1st Quarterly Joint Provincail/ City/ Municipal Meeting  (Iloilo Province) in Early Childhood Care and Development in the First 1000 Days (ECCD F1K) on March 8, 2019 at Panaderia de Iloilo, Arevalo, Iloilo City.

As we celebrate the 51st Dinagyang Festival 2019 in Iloilo City, the National Nutrition Council (NNC), Region VI reminds the public of some items in the 10 KUMAINMENTS to stay well-nourished throughout the festivity.

I.     Kumain ng iba’t-ibang pagkain.

  • Eat a variety of foods every day. No single food can give all the nutrients your body needs.

III.   Kumain ng gulay at prutas araw-araw

  • Choose fruits in season like chico, mango, tambis, star apple, kamunsil, banana, etc., and leafy green and yellow vegetables like carrots, cucumber, raddish, ampalaya, etc. this is to ensure that your body gets proper nutrients.

Broken Heart

Does your chest flutter? Racing heartbeat? Experiencing shortness of breath? Are you in love?............. NO. Your heart is probably broken in fact, what were described earlier were the symptoms of cardiovascular disease. Two hundred seventy six Filipinos die of heart disease everyday according to FNRI and one person dies of stroke every 9 minutes. This is not to frighten but to inform you that there is now an increasing trend of Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD) in the country.

February, the month where lovers express their love and affection for each other is also known as “Heart Month”. This is to make you aware that you can reduce the risk of having CVD. For those with “broken heart” and to those who do not like to have one, the 10 Kumainiments “Sigla at lakas ng buhay” Kumainment #8 says-“Hinay-hinay sa maalat, mamantika at matatamis.”:

By virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 1188 signed on December 11, 2016, Goiter Awareness Week is observed every fourth week of January. This year's theme "Goiter Sugpuin, isip Patalinuhin, Iodized Salt Gamitin" aims to highlight the vital role of iodized salt in preventing thyroid disorders such as goiter.

Pregnant mothers taking part in the Dietary Supplemenatary Feeding for Pregnant Women in Barangay Tagalawigan, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental

1, 839 pregnant mothers from the 22 barangays in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental took part in the Dietary Supplementary Program (DSP) of the ECCD F1K. The DSP is a 90-day program where hot meals are provided every weekdays for 76 days and dry rations consisting of rice, monggo and oil every weekend for 14 days are given to pregnant mothers. The meals consist of 300 kcal (normal) and 400 kcal (at-risk) based from the FNRI recipes for pregnant women.
