Palo, Leyte- In line with the celebration of the nutrition month, the National Nutrition Council 8 distributed recipe book, titled “Mga Lutuing Gulay Araw-arawin- Simple, Mura at Masustansiya” to barangay nutrition scholars and other entities in the region.
Printed in 2013, the NNC recipe book provides the family a nutritious but low-cost food. The preparation is easy, and the main ingredients are accessible and readily available.
The recipe book provided to us by NNC8 will help our students enhance their skills and knowledge especially in preparing a menu which ingredients are locally available, said by ACLC School Director Cary Jaucian.
The recipe also provides easy to cook procedure. One can identify to cook from appetizer, soup, vegetables, vegetable in mixed seafoods, vegetables and meat and many others.
BNSs will receive the copy of the recipe book, they will try to prepare the menu for their family and share the procedure to other family during their home visits, mentioned by CNPC Ralph Maribojoc of Calbayog City.
This year the country is celebrating the 47th Nutrition Month Celebration and one of the priority targets of the campaign are the families.

Former Maasin City Mayor now City Vice Mayor Maloney Samaco proves himself that he is not only a staunch nutrition advocate and champion but also a frequent blood donor.
While July of every year is designated as Nutrition Month per P.D. 491, it is also declared as the “Blood Donors Month” by former President Fidel V. Ramos per Proclamation No. 1021 signed on June 9, 1997. The whole month of July encourages all men and women to the altruistic cause of blood donation and the time to acknowledge our blood donors of their noble act of saving lives through their gift of blood.
The Department of Health (DOH) intensifies its advocacy on voluntary blood donation to provide and allocate safe blood supply, sustaining its adequacy and ensuring accessibility.
Saving the lives of millions of Filipinos in need of blood transfusion, the State through the Republic Act 7719. The National Blood Services Act of 1994 promotes voluntary blood donation. This is parallel with upgraded blood service facilities and organization into a National Blood Transfusion Service Network for rational provision of adequate and safe blood supply in the country.

Catbalogan City- Pursuant to Section 6 of the Republic Act 11037 or otherwise known as the Masustansyang Pagkain Para sa Batang Pilipino Act mandates NNC as the agency focal point for the multi-agency Early Childhood Care and Development in the First 1000 Days (ECCDF1K) and the National Nutrition Information System.
The ECCD F1K Reporting System (RS) is a tracking tool to process real time accomplishments on ECCD F1K program. The RA aims to harmonize all reporting system within the health sector and including other services accessed by mothers in the first 1000 days.
The Reporting System contains eight modules. Its key features and capabilities are centralized web-based system (no installation needed); mobile device responsive; supports offline encoding in excel for later uploading; short message service (SMS) notifications for beneficiaries next scheduled visit; and report generation.
As part of the full implementation of ECCD F1KD program and the harmonized RS, there is a need to train pool of trainers to roll it out in the region.
The initiative of Samar Provincial Nutrition Office was done in close coordination with NNC 8 and development partners such as UNICEF, KOICA, World Vision and Zuellig Family Foundation, a training of trainers (TOT) was conducted with selected Samar province municipalities.

Tacloban City- On Thursday Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) in 47 barangays in Catubig Northern Samar received the health kits after its monthly BNS meeting from the National Nutrition Council 8.
Face shield, alcohol and three pieces of face masks comprised the items as health kits which will help the BNSs as they provide volunteer services at their respective barangays, said by RNPC Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr.
Since the start of lockdowns and with the imposition of quarantine, BNSs served as member of the Barangay Health Emergency Response Team (BHERT) which perform additional function especially during this pandemic.
The BHERT assist in the contact tracing, monitoring, and recording of health conditions of individuals who are in isolation and quarantine.
In an interview, MNAO Kartleen Llave said that the health kits is an additional help not only as some BNSs are BHERT members but this will help BNSs continue their nutrition related activities.

Palo Leyte- In an effort to disseminate the 2021 Nutrition Month campaign, NNC8 conducted a simultaneous launching over Nutriskwela community radio stations and other local radio stations in Eastern Visayas Tuesday, July 6, 2021.
This year, the whole country is celebrating the 47th Nutrition Month with the theme, “ Malnutrisyon patuloy na labanan, first 1000 days tutukan”.
NOIII Nino Archie S. Labordo shared the 2021 Nutrition Month advocacy face-to-face in an afternoon program at Radyo Kasugbong in Catubig, Northern Samar.
On the other hand, NOII Ullasini P. Alferez disseminated the nutrition month key messages at Radyo Kauswagan in Eastern Samar State University in Borongan City and Radyo Kabulig in San Policarpo, Eastern Samar.
The team objective is to raise awareness on the 2021 Nutrition Month theme and encourage various stakeholders to participate and engage in activities that will improve nutrition.
This year, the call to action is “By working together, we can end all forms of malnutrition. Let us scale up critical actions in the first 1000 days of life”.
Identified as key messages, the ABAKADA messages focus on key actions in the first 1,000 days of life and all stakeholders to support the campaign to reduce malnutrition.

Tacloban City- “Palangga” a mascot (child) provided with the foundations of optimum health, growth and neurodevelopment in the first 1,000 days toured over Calbayog City on 7 July 2021 during the launching of the 47th Nutrition Month Celebration in Calbayog, City, Samar.
Conceptualized in 2019 as the icon by the City Nutrition Office, the mascot named “Palangga” which means love provided attention from individuals, families, stakeholders and the whole community for support to the nutrition implementation particularly the 1,000 days of life program.
Palangga together with the team from the City Nutrition Office visited the five district areas of Calbayog.
The office provided the Information Education and Communication (IEC) materials especially on the first 1000 days, nutrition flyers and other references to main health centers of the city, said by City Nutrition Action Officer, Dr. Roy Maribojoc.
Likewise, the team visited a local radio station in the city and provided information on the City’s lined up activities for the long nutrition month celebration.
