Baybay City ---Seven (7) local government units (LGUs) in Leyte ECCD F1K areas and nearby municipalities joined the NNC8 orientation on Tutok Kainan dietary supplementation program and advocacy forum on RA 11148 on 19 August 2021 at Danmar Venue and Tuna Grill, Baybay City, Leyte.
Joining from the ECCD F1K (Early Childhood Care and Development in the First 1,000 Days) areas are from Mahaplag, Hilongos and Baybay City. On the other hand, joining for the TK:DSP areas are from Albuera, Inopacan, Hindang, and Matalom.
RNPC Dr. Catalino Dotollo, Jr. discussed the rationale, objectives, and target partner-children. Likewise, Dr. Dotollo shared on the implementation mechanism including type of feeding, timing and duration of the program. Content of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and the roles of LGUs up to the barangay level were also given emphasis.
NOIII Dr. Nino Archie S. Labordo discussed in detail regarding the various forms to filled out and requirements to be submitted. Moreover, NO1 Annabel B. Limbagan discussed the cycle menu and how to prepare the food.

TACLOBAN City—The newly assigned Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) VIII Regional Director, Atty. Robert Anthony P. Yu welcomed the Tutok Kainan (TK) partnership program with the National Nutrition Council 8 as showed during a brief orientation on 18 August 2021 at the DAR8 Office, Tacloban City.
Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr. together with NOIII Dr. Nino Archie S. Labordo visited the newly assigned DAR Director in the region and oriented on the dietary supplementation program (DSP) Tutok Kainan for 6-23 months old children.
Dr. Dotollo shared the Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation program goal, objectives, and strategies to the good DAR8 Director and technical staff.
Primarily, the aim of the program is to contribute to the prevention of stunting among children 0 to 23 months old by improving the quality and quantity of food and nutrient intakes and utilization of related Early Childhood Care and Development in the First 1,000 Days (ECCD F1KD) services among nutritionally at-risk pregnant women and children 6-23 months old in the target Tutok Kainan program areas, discussed by Dr. Dotollo.

PALO, Leyte - The provincial government of Samar will start the payout of the annual honorarium for Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) this year.
This was announced on Thursday during its BNS Congress 2021 in Catbalogan City.
Cynthia Palileo, Provincial Nutrition Action Officer, said although the resolution is still for approval, Governor Michael Tan assured that all BNS regardless of the length of service will receive the first payout of the PHP1,200 annual honorarium this December.
She added that starting next year, the provincial government will also give PhP2,500 performance incentive bonus to all BNSs with an overall rating of at least 85 percent based on the evaluation of the Provincial Nutrition Evaluation Team.
Palileo also disclosed that the highest-ranking BNS, with an overall rating of at least 88 percent, will be conferred as the Provincial Outstanding BNS and will receive a cash reward of PHP10,000 from the provincial government.

PALO, Leyte -- As the Tutok Kainan: Dietary Supplementation Program (TK:DSP) for 6-23 months old is soon to start its implementation, another two Leyte Mayors oriented on the program on 17 August 2021.
Upon the invitation of Calubian, Leyte Mayor Marciano A. Batiancela, Jr., at least two NNC 8 staff went to the municipality to give a comprehensive orientation with the mayor together with his MNAO on the program.
RNPC Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr. with NOIII Dr. Nino Archie Labordo discussed the mechanism of implementation of the DSP. Likewise, included in the orientation are the roles and responsibilities of the LGU including the barangays including equity particularly on the preparation of the meals for the target children-participants.
The Mayor who is a former PNP uniformed personnel vowed to support the program. Later during the orientation, RNPC advocated to create a nutrition office with corresponding budget and permanent plantilla position for MNAO.
The Mayor took the challenge and will study the organizational structure to include creation of essential plantilla position such Nutrition Officer III while they are still preparing the Devolution Transition Plan (DTP) of the municipality.

Maasin City -- Pabasa sa Nutrisyon conducted whole year round, 10-week duration is one of the nutrition education activities being sustained in the City of Maasin, Southern Leyte.
Pabasa sa Nutrisyon is a participative gathering of mothers informally discussing health and nutrition topics and encouraging each other to apply good health and nutrition practices in their homes.
The general objective of the activity is to empower the families as to reduce the vulnerability to malnutrition through the adoption of proper nutrition practices and healthy lifestyle.
The Pabasa is conducted in all barangays of Maasin and is facilitated by the respective Rural Health Midwives, Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) supervised by a very dynamic and active City Nutrition Program Coordinator, Ms. Michelle Marie O. Siega.
The City Nutrition Office strategizes the activity following minimum public health protocols. The 15-20 identified mothers are placed in a big, covered court in the barangay with individual table at one meter distance. Only one mother participant is in a table wearing mask and a ready alcohol.
The Barangay Council with BNS and BHWs helped in the dissemination of the activity, managed the registration and served a simple snack after the session. The BNSs and BHWs also served as resource speakers with the Rural Health Midwives managing the entire session.

PALO Leyte--The heavy rains did not dampen the spirits of the participating groups and individuals of MaBaHinHil Inter-local health Zone as they hold its first ever COVID 19 Resbakuna Caravan on 9 August 2021 along the main roads of Matalom down in Hindang Leyte.
MaBaHinHil ILHZ is composed of the municipalities of Matalom, Bato, Hilongos and Hindang, all in the Province of Leyte.
Joining the caravan are from LGUs with national government agencies operating in the municipalities such as Department of Health (DOH), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau oof Fire Protection (BFP) among others participated in the caravan.
The caravan started from the far municipality of Matalom, Leyte passing by the municipalities of Bato and Hilongos and Hindang as its final destination. The activity was organized and facilitated Development Management Officer IV Dr. Vilma Amal- Estorba who is assigned in the ILHZ with strong support from the Leyte Provincial DOH Officer Dr. Antonio O. Ida and ably assisted by the DOH Human Resources for Health and the local health personnel.
The caravan ended in the municipality of Hindang, Leyte after which all participating LGUs returned to their respective municipalities to have their barangay to barangay caravan where BHWs, BNSs and other volunteer workers awaits the caravan.
