Leyte RUTFPALO, Leyte - The Provincial Health Office of Leyte on February 15, 2022 received Ready-Use-therapeutic food (RUTF), made possible through the coordinated efforts of UNICEF, Department of Health (DOH), and the National Nutrition Council (NNC).

The supply pulled out from Samar province is intended for areas severely hit by Typhoon Odette in the 5th district of Leyte.

On March 3, 2022, Joan G. Gonzales, Information Management Officer for Leyte, visited PDOHO to check the storage facility and acquire dat on damage RUTF packets and boxes.

She said Nutritionist-Dietitian II, Ms. Able Joy Angelique Cerro, Leyte PDOHO disclosed that they already set schedule in the RUTF distribution

DOH8PALO, Leyte - The National Nutrition Council (NNC) headed by RNPC Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr. and UNICEF officials discussed with DOH-EV-CHD Director, Dr. Exuperia B. Sabalberino, the ongoing Typhoon Odette response in Southern Leyte.

UNICEF sectors on health, nutrition, and education presented their continuous efforts in monitoring of typhoon response implementation and assessment of current needs in Southern Leyte, specifically in Maasin City, Bontoc, and Limasawa.

Municipalities in Panaon Island will be next recipients of the current project.

SLeyte PDOHOMAASIN CITY - The Provincial Health Service Office of Southern Leyte (SL) conducted meeting Monday morning to uodate all provincial program coordinators of the provincial coordinators.

Present during the meeting presided by Provincial Health Officer II and concurrent Privinvial Nutrition Action Officer Dr John Matibag were various program coordinators of the province, National Nuttition Council official and staff and UNICEF Philippines.

For his part, RNPC Dr Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr gave feedback on the various coordinative mechanisms made by the agency to assist the 19 LGUs of SL (18 municipalities and 1 city).

Limasawa BNSsMAASIN CITY - The Nutrition Program Coordinators’ (NPC) Association named Association of Nutrition Prime Movers of the Philippines through its president and treasurer Dr. Terry Ungson and Carina Santiago respectively, polled funds from the 17 Regional NPC and various donors an amount and later pro rated the said amount to regions devastated by TY Odette.

NNC 8 RNPC Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr., in his visit to Limasawa Island in Southern Leyte together with UNICEF Manila and Samaritan’s Purse handed over the cash assistance to all Barangay Nutrition Scholars ( BNSs) of the island.

The RNPC also handed over used clothings to the same BNSs. The handing over was witnessed by the a Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) Miss Reminigilda Salomon.

The BNSs and the MNAO expressed their sencirest gratitude to the NPC Association and to the NNC 8 staff for the used clothing.

LimasawaMAASIN CITY - The National Nutrition Council (NNC) together with development partners including UNICEF, Samaritan's Purse, and Plann International have visited Limasawa Island in Southern Leyte on February 22, 2022.

The team was on on its second day of Health and Nutrition Program Monitoring visit in areas most affected by Typhoon Odette that devastated the province on December 16, 2021.

SLeyte GovernorMAASIN CITY - Officials and staff from UNICEF Manila and National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region 8 paid a courtesy visit and a meeting with Southern Leyte Provincial Governor Damian Mercado on February 22, 2022.

UNICEF Manila come to SL to assess how far the humanitarian organizations can assist 19 LGUs of SL in terms of health, nutrition, WASH, child protection. and education. UNICEF is also coordinating other humanitarian agencies to come to SL to assist them build back better their lives being affected by Typhoon Odette.

Meanwhile for his part the NNC already conducted initial nutrition assessment, crash course on Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (PIMAM) to effectively manage moderate and acute malnourished children, coordinated the distribution of ready to use therapeutic food (RUTF) and nutrition education classes.
