Hilongos town in Leyte, a pilot municipality of NNC’s Early Childhood Care and Development for the First 1000 Days (ECCD-F1KD) project attends workshop on 2022 Updating of Municipal Nutrition Action Planning (MNAP) and integrating it to the Annual Investment Program for the same year.
It was attended by the MNC Core Planning team of the municipality. This will be the last planning for the MNAP 2020-2022 since next year will be election year both local and national positions.
Close to Php 200 million are placed in the AIP 2022. Of the said budget, almost Php 26 million will be funded locally and about Php 175 million will be sourced from provincial, regional and national funds. Of the Php 26 million, Php 22 million is a counter part to the Philippine Rural.
Development Project (PRDP) which are mostly provision of safe water, a nutrition sensitive WASH intervention. A million was allocated for Dietary Supplementation Program (DSP) both for nutritionally at risk pregnant women and 6-23 months children. Their DSP will target pregnant and 6-23 months old not covered by the NNCs DSP.

BAYBAY CITY, Leyte (Francis C. Rosaroso)- As one of the major cities in Region 8 that positively responded to Secretary William D. Dar’s call for a massive food production since the onset of the Covid 19 pandemic, the DA-RFO 8 thru its High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) has recently delivered to LGU-Baybay various farm tools and other logistics in support of the City's unwavering adoption of the DA's Plant, Plant, Plant Program.
At least two truckload of farm tools and other logistical inputs arrived at the City Agriculture Office Nursery Site in Brgy. Gaas, this city, on the same day that the training on lettuce production in hydroponics set up was being conducted.
Said interventions which were all intended for the establishment of 3 subprojects of the Agri-4Ps funded under the Bayanihan 2, include the following;16 wheel burrow; 15 pcs drum; 25 plastic crate; 25 shovel; 21 rakes; 15 pickmattock; 15 sprayers; 10 pcs shears; 25 pcs bolo; 25 shovelletes; 27 bags potting medium; 100 polynet, and many more.

CATBALOGAN City--The Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) of the Province of Samar initiated the organization of the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement on 16 August 2021 at the Samar Provincial Capitol, Catbalogan City, Samar.
This important milestone was participated in by PNC members, Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (MNAOs) and representatives from the business, academe, and civil society organizations.
SUN is a unique movement founded on the principle that all people have the right to food and good nutrition. It focuses on the first 1000 days of life between a mother’s pregnancy and her child’s second birthday, as well as on empowering women. It was launched in 2010 through the Framework for Action to Scale Up Nutrition.
Moreover, the movement is also focused on the effective implementation of both nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive strategies to produce nutrition outcomes. The SUN approach brings people together in a multi-stakeholder platform.
Present during the provincial organization are representatives from the academic, business and civil society sectors. All these sectors have bias to nutrition. At present there are three (3) sectors implementing supplementary feeding program with nutrition education classes. Representatives of these 3 sectors verbalized that while they are implementing supplementary feeding, they do not know the mechanisms, focused targets, and the number of days of supplementation.

TACLOBAN City- Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF) in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) and National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region VIII facilitated the 5-day Municipal Nutrition Governance Program (MNGP)-Nutrition and Health Leadership for the First 1,000 days (F1KD) to the members of Municipal Nutrition Committee of the Municipality of Bobon, Northern Samar on September 6-10, 2021 at Hotel Lorenza, Tacloban City.
The activity aims to improve a responsive leadership and governance ensuring proper mechanisms and strategies for F1KD program.
RNPC Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr. in his opening message emphasized that the role of the MNC is very challenging especially on achieving the low prevalence rate of stunting and wasting. Hence, RNPC Dotollo encouraged the members to strive and work together and strengthen the commitment for nutrition programs.
During the 5-day training, the Municipal Nutrition Committee was able to present the municipal nutrition situation and challenges in the implementation of nutrition programs in the midst of CoVid-19 that leads to the increase number of stunting and wasting.

TACLOBAN CITY - The Regional Nutrition and Evaluation Team (RNET) in Eastern Visayas on Thursday has validated the three selected contenders for Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars (ROBNS) in Tacloban City.
RNET members Faustito Aure of Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) and Nelson Braga of Harmonized Initiatives of Media for the Spread of Good Nutrition led the validation, with NNC8 technical staff NOIII Archie S. Labordo, NOI Ramel Bandibas, and Gerico Sabalza.
Two of the top performing BNSs in the city are Riza Garcia, 40, and Michelle Badidles, 41, both from Brgy. 84 San Jose district, who have been community volunteers for eight and five years, respectively.
The third contender is Arlene Bustillo, 40, of Brgy. 5-A, serving her community as BNS for seven years now.
Using the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) Pro tool, the RNET determined the performance of the ROBNS contenders based on management dimensions as to; (1) coordination; (2) advocacy and promotion; (3) planning; (4) implementation; (5) monitoring and evaluation; (6) resource generation; and (6) documentation and record-keeping.

TACLOBAN City—Samar’s First 1,000 days Program dubbed “Tatak Tangkad” shared on Friday by Samar Governor and Provincial Nutrition Committee Chairperson Hon. Reynolds Michael T. Tan and gained support from the audience during its second semester meeting of the Provincial Development Council held at the Samar State University Convention Center, Catbalogan City, Samar.
Tatak Tangkad Program was launch on May 14, 2021, the first in Eastern Visayas region to adopt the 1,000 days program which aimed at reducing child malnutrition particularly stunting.
Governor Tan in his presentation shared that the program hopes to address stunting and other forms of malnutrition in a holistic approach linking both nutrition specific and sensitive interventions.
Samar Province posted a high prevalence of stunting at 26.1% in the 2020 Operation Timbang Plus (OPT+) report.
Inspired by the story of Alfie, Governor Tan assured on an integrated approach including intensive partnership in reducing malnutrition in the Province of Samar.
