Ang bayan ng Buenavista ay isa sa labinlimang (15) bayan sa Calabarzon na nabiyayaan ng programang Early Childhood Care and Development in the First 1000 Days Program o ECCD F1K (First 1000 Days) at Q1K (Quezon’s First 1000 Days). Makasisiguro na ang mga benepisyaryo ng programa na sila ay makatatanggap ng kumpleto at tamang serbisyo pang nutrisyon, kalusugan, social, at pang-agrikultura.

taal recoveryrehab article.finalWith the aim of planning for the recovery and rehabilitation of the vulnerable victims of the Taal Volcano eruption, the Regional Nutrition Cluster (RNC) of Calabarzon held its 3rd meeting on February 26, 2020 at the NNC Central Office, Taguig City.

Member agencies who attended the said meeting included DOH, DA, DSWD, DepEd, POPCOM, DOLE, and Kabisig ng Kalahi. Also present were representatives from the National Nutrition Cluster, specifically Ms. Janice P. Feliciano from DOH Central Office and Ms. Leah M. Felismino from NNC Central Office.

pnc ACTIVATION articleDuring  the recent Taal volcano eruption, the NNC, together with the Regional Nutrition Cluster (RNC), witnessed the Bayanihan spirit  among  Calabarzonians, as their Provincial Nutrition Committees (PNC)  reactivated the Nutrition Clusters (NCs)  to   prevent  the worsening of the nutritional status of the target groups.

Initially, the Calabarzon RNC, represented by the NNC and the DOH, toured the four (4) provinces affected by the disaster (especially those with evacuation centers) to meet with each Cluster, assist its reactivation, and discuss ways forward in response to the disaster.

rnc deployment articleThe recent Taal Volcano Eruption took the Calabarzon region by surprise, but its Health Cluster and its Regional Nutrition Cluster (RNC) has been preparing for the event since December last year. The nutritional problems that inevitably follow food shortages during emergencies and disasters was clearly foreseen such that a Nutrition in Emergencies (NiEM) Plan 2019-2022 was put into place at the most appropriate time. The Plan was the main tool used to reduce the impact of the Taal Volcano Eruption.

As one of the quad clusters belonging to the Health Cluster, the RNC acts as the prime mover in ensuring that the nutrition situation of affected population will not worsen in times of emergencies and disasters. The RNC is composed of representatives from the regional offices of DOH, DSWD, DILG, DA, DepEd, DTI, DOST, NEDA, OCD, DOLE, DENR, DAR, DBM, BFAR, PIA, PopCom, NCIP, TESDA, NFA, and NGOs (Kabisig ng Kalahi, Regional Rural Improvement Club (RRIC) and Nutrition Foundation of the Philippines (NFP) and NNC Calabarzon as the Cluster Coordinator.

The “Taal Disaster Response” experience paved the way for the development of new Information Management (IM) tools and other information  materials for use in evacuation centers to respond more efficiently and more effectively to the nutritional needs of recipients during disasters and emergencies.

One of the Information Management (IM) tools developed by the Calabarzon RNC is the Nutrition Databoard. They are placed in the entrance of evacuation centers to  ensure that duplications of data sources are avoided and all target groups are covered.  

breastfeedingsupportgroup articleThe volunteer mothers of the Breastfeeding Support Groups (BSGs) in CALABARZON played a major and dynamic role in empowering vulnerable groups during the recent Taal Volcano eruption response in Batangas. It also provided  a critical boost to the Regional and Local Nutrition Clusters (R/LNC) in ensuring the nutritional status of  vulnerable groups which include the children 0-59 months (the most delicate and prone to illness/diseases), pregnant and lactating mothers, persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, and senior citizens.

In further strengthening systems and capacities in times of disasters and emergencies, the R/LNC personally assessed the status of the vulnerable groups in various evacuation centers and tapped health and nutrition partners to safeguard the welfare of the groups served.
