rnc quarantanim articleAt the height of growing concerns in ensuring food security and healthy communities in the period of ECQs, the Regional Nutrition Cluster (RNC) came up with the most gainful and worthwhile “Vegetable Gardening Challenge” project which enjoins households to produce their own food at home through vegetable gardening. In the challenge, families can showcase their gardens through Facebook, the most widely used social media platform, at the same time win prizes and add food on their table.

The (RNC) of Calabarzon   has been continuously strategizing ways to provide nutrition programs and assist local government units (LGUs) in their response to the COVID-19 pandemic. After several virtual RNC meetings, discussions and brainstorming on various activities, the RNC realized the need for LGUs to strengthen their efforts to engage communities in having their own sources of fresh and abundant food in these times of crisis -- particularly in families with vulnerable groups (including 0-59 months children, pregnant and lactating women, persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples and the elderly).

When we keep our lungs healthy, fresh oxygen is taken into the blood thereby expelling carbon dioxide, a waste product of cellular function. The quality of blood and overall health is thereby improved.

Ang mahigpit na pagpapatupad ng “No Milk Donation Policy” ay nakasaad sa Nutrition Cluster Advisory No. 01. Ito ay may mga panuntunang nakapaloob sa EO 51 (“The Milk Code”, RA 11148 o “Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng MagNanay Act”) at DOH Guidelines.

milk donations majorissue articleA successful campaign to confiscate and ban donations of infant formula milk during the recent Taal disaster response   was  spearheaded by the National Nutrition Council (NNC), Department of Health (DOH) Calabarzon and the Regional Nutrition Cluster (RNC). When the RNC visited the evacuation centers, infant formula milk donations received were pulled out and endorsed to the Municipal Health Officers with the help of the camp managers and Nutrition Action Officers.

Furthermore, the RNC monitored the implementation of Guidelines for Infant and Young Child Feeding In Emergencies (IYCF-E) for Evacuation Centers Relative to the Taal Volcano Eruption in the Province of Batangas (Issued in January 17, 2020 by the the DOH Office of the Secretary). The guidelines support the strict enforcement of EO 51 or the “Milk Code of the Philippines,” and its revised Implementing Rules and Regulations.

The learning sessions on the Early Childhood Care in the First 1000 Days was held at Villesta Foodhaus, Brgy. Pahinga Norte, Candelaria, Quezon last November 19, 2019.  

The 1-day nutrition education activity aims to promote and increase the engagement of fathers in caring for mother and children to ensure optimal development of the children in the first 1000 days of life. It was spearheaded by Dr. Clemente Alcala Jr., Candelaria’s Municipal Health Officer (MHO), and Ms. Graciella Ramos, Candelaria’s Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO). They also served as speakers for the event, together with three other members from Municipal Health Office: Josefina Ramirez (RHMMs), Julieta Liwag (RHM) and Ms. Mildred Landicho (nurse).

mulanay covid19PROBINSYA NG LAGUNA, 6 Abril –Patuloy ang “Aksyon Kontra sa Malnutriyon” sa panahon ng lockdown sa Mulanay, sa tulong at pagmamalasakit ng ating mga frontliners. Sila ang mga masisikap at masisipag na Barangay Nutrition Scholars, mga midwives, mga nurses, mga staff ng Rural Health Unit at iba pang kawani ng gobyerno.

“Naipamahagi sa 28 na barangay at a mga taong nasasakupan nito ang kumpletong set ng Emergency Nutri-Pack,” ayon kay Ms. Rona P. Rogelio, Assistant Municipal Nutrition Action Officer ng Mulanay. Ang Emergency Nutri-Pack ay naglalaman ng Ready-to-Use Supplementary Food (isang fortified paste na ginawa para sa mga bata anim na buwan pataas na may Moderate Acute Malnutrition), Nutri Snacks at Nutri Blend (mga karagdagang pagkain para sa batang anim na buwan at pataas), Vitamin A, Deworming Tablet, at vegetable seeds na pananim tulad ng pechay, mustasa, at sitaw ang kanilang naipamahagi.
