In the aftermath of the devastating impact of typhoon Ulysses in November 10, and amidst floods -- the emergency response interventions of DOH-NNC Calabarzon Regional Nutrition Cluster (RNC) were  continuous -- to provide  the  urgent nutrition  needs of the victims of the disaster. The DOH-NNC Calabarzon RNC assumed once more its undiminished commitment, dedication and service, with the guidance and leadership of Ms. Carina Z. Santiago, Calabarzon Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator (RNPC).

Activation of  the “Incident Command System,”  A meeting convened by DOH Center for Health Development – IV-A headed by Dir. Eduardo Janairo, and joined by DOH ASec Francie Laxamana to activate the “Incident Command System was attended by NNC staff representing the Nutrition Cluster, for the necessary guidance in the TY Ulysses response.”  The meeting was participated by the  Chief of LHSD, MSD, RLED Division of DOH 4A; the staff of the Center for Health Development 4A  and National Nutrition Council 4A; doctors from PDOHO; and representatives  from the Office of the Civil Defense 4A and   WHO.

QUEZON CITY, 11 November - The Local Government Units (LGUs)  in CaLaBaRZon clearly expressed their commitment and dedication for capacity building and knowledge and skills  development through their dynamic  participation in the  recent “Nutrition in Emergencies and Information Management  (NiE-IM) e-Learning Course”.

The course  turned out to have an almost complete attendance during the opening program with a total of 55 participants for Batch 1  (from 12 LGUs) in the morning session  and 49 participants for Batch 2  (from  another 12 LGUs) in the afternoon session.  Other participating agencies are  members of Regional Nutrition Cluster-CaLaBaRZon from  DOH, DTI, NCIP, DOLE, IIRR, BFAR and TESDA and  the DOH Human Resources for Health–Nutritionist Dietitian Deployment Program in CaLaBaRZon.

CAVITE PROVINCE, 10 November - NNC-CaLaBaRZon pledged to actively support the line of activities of the Regional inter-agency body, Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children (RSCWC) IV-A CALABARZON for the 28th National Children’s Month (NCM) celebration activities with its theme “Sama-samang Itaguyod ang Karapatan ng Bawat Bata sa Panahon ng Pandemya.”

The activities will focus on continuously disseminating the 2020 NCM message of upholding children’s rights during this pandemic through strengthening the promotion of a child’s health particularly in investments in the First 1000 Days of every child’s life in the CaLaBaRZon region.

LAGUNA, 11 November  -  NNC CaLaBaRZon has intensified its emergency response as  super typhoons  threaten to continuously  sweep  across the country. Together with the DOH–Center for Health Development CaLaBaRZon Health Emergency Management Services and LGUs,  it has  constantly been making  sure that nutrition commodities such as vitamin A capsules and micronutrient powder or MNP are sufficient for all  its constituents. 

Moreover, NNC CaLaBaRZon has been reminding the Nutrition Action Officers (NAOs) of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon to always  stay alert and when needed, to deploy staff and nutrition workers to the evacuation centers to deliver nutrition services.

CAVITE PROVINCE, 8 November - NNC CaLaBaRZon continues its provision of technical assistance to its LGUs to  secure investments in nutrition programs and projects in the region through online Annual Investment Program (AIP) workshops  themed, “Building Pandemic Resiliency of LGUs Through Investments in Nutrition in the 2021 AIP”

In partnership with DOH-NDDPs and IIRR, NNC-CaLaBaRZon further carries on its advocacy of integrating nutrition in local planning and budgeting even in this time of the pandemic.

QUEZON CITY, 11 November - NNC CaLaBaRZon recently conducted a virtual meeting  for the  1st Regional Bantay Asin Task Force (RBATF) Series 2020 to map out  its National Salt iodization  Program (NSIP) for 2021. This  ongoing collaboration with various agencies, and the consolidation and restructuring of capacity building  to meet salt iodization standards are expected to  increase the consumption of high quality salt in every household in the region. 

In the meeting headed by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Carina Z. Santiago,   the  RBATF member agencies  vowed to support  the following activities  1) The  reactivation/revitalization of the group by ensuring the attendance of the other members during meetings such as the PNP Community Relations Office, and others; 2) Strengthen the promotion/advocacy campaign for use of iodized salt and to correct misconceptions through the production of fliers and through social media; 3) Continue with the testing of salt samples from markets with the help of FDA (for validation) and DOST for the supply of the reagents; and 4) Request DOST to provide names of cooperatives issued with Quality Assurance/Quality Control Training Certificates.
