Quezon City – The recent online discussion forum in the “Nutrition in Emergencies–Information Management (NiE-IM)” e-learning course has spurred greater interest and collaboration  in enhancing Nutrition Plans in Calabarzon. According to the students,  the  queries,  sharing and insights  with the  groups  gave them a platform to express their views and creativity and made them feel that they could  positively contribute to the success of the region’s DRRM-H-NiE Plans.

The discussions centered on the following: 1) Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (PIMAM) and Information Management Tools like 4Ws; 2) Nutrition Initial Needs Assessment (NINA); 3) Gap Analysis tool, Capacity Mapping Tool and Data Repository; 4) Presentations of the Local Government Unit’s output on Disaster Risk Reduction Management–Health–Nutrition in Emergencies Plan; and  5) Case Study and their Re-Entry Plan.

Quezon City – During the 2020  Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) last December 10  ( via Zoom Video Conferencing and Facebook Live), the City of Biñan and Municipality of Sariaya   were hailed as “Nutrition Champion Awardees for COVID-19 Response” -- while the DOH Calabarzon was recognized for its “Outstanding Response during the COVID-19 Response”   

City of Binan.  Through the leadership of Mayor Walfredo “Arman” Dimaguila, the city of Biñan has implemented various nutrition interventions to ensure  the nutritional status of Biñanenses.  From the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, their Nutrition Cluster regularly met to discuss strategies to protect and promote good nutrition.

Quezon City – In  the recent  “2020 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC),” NNC Calabarzon awarded “The Best Social Media Account for Nutrition” to  Cavite province (for the Provincial Level Category),  and  to   Bacoor City (for the  City Level Category).

For the Municipal Level Category, the same award was given to  Kalayaan, Laguna (as Champion),  to  Magdalena, Laguna (as first  placer),  and to   Los Banos, Laguna  (as second placer).

QUEZON CITY, December 21 – Five outstanding nutrition workers with  exceptional passion and dedication in providing nutrition services despite of the Covid-19 pandemic were recognized as “Nutrition Heroes” during NNC CaLaBaRZon’s “2020 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC).”

The awardees are: Ms. Angeles Peñalba of Cavite Province for the PNAO category;  Ms. Aleli Catalina  Jimenez of Calamba City for the CNAO category;  Ms. Cecile Flores-Magana of Kalayaan, Laguna for the MNAO category;   Ms. Marietta DG. Dogelio of Tagaytay City for the C/CNPC Category;   Ms. Donnabel  Lazo of Barangay Mendez Crossing West, Tagaytay City   for the BNS Category.

QUEZON CITY, December 12 – Two new Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials will be distributed by the National Nutrition Council – CaLaBaRZon to Local Government Units (LGUs) in the first quarter of 2021.

NNC 4A received 4119 copies of Barangay Nutrition Program brochures and 187 copies of Pinggang Pinoy Handbook from NNC Central Office. Each IEC material can guide the nutrition workers in advocating nutrition to their province down to their barangays.

QUEZON CITY – Fourteen  City and Municipal Nutrition Action Officer retirees of Calabarzon were given  an award  for their exemplary efforts   and outstanding performance in the past years’ implementation  of the PPAN. The event was held   last December 10 during the “2020 Calabarzon Virtual Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony” in Greenhills Elan Modern Hotel.

The  awardees were : Ms. Luciana  Manalo (Batangas City);  Ms. Cecilia  Perez (Taysan, Batangas); Ms. Ruena  Causapin (Rosario, Batangas); Ms. Merlinda  Biscocho (San Nicolas, Batangas); Ms. Doriminda  Atienza (Taal, Batangas); Ms. Ma. Luisia Famini (Kawit, Cavite); Dr. Evangelina Manzo (Alfonso, Cavite); Dr. Maria Cerezo (Los Banos, Laguna); Ms. Amor  Moncada (Liliw, Laguna); Ms. Myrna Dela Pena (Rizal, Laguna); Ms. Elsie  Goma (Pagsanjan, Laguna); Ms, Ludivina Maranan (Lumban, Laguna); Dr. Rene V. Luce (Tanay, Rizal); and Ms, Ludy De Castro (San Juan, Batangas). Their  awards   will be personally distributed to LGUs next year.
