SAN NARCISO, Quezon, Nov. 20-- As part of the expansion of Local Nutrition Early Warning System – Food and Nutrition Security (LNEWS-FNS) in CaLaBaRZon, the National Nutrition Council proposed the project to San Narciso, Quezon. Based on OPT Plus result for 2018, the municipality has the highest number of wasted children in Quezon province and is ranked 3rd among the municipalities with the highest prevalence of underweight and stunting. In the regional ranking of areas in CaLaBaRZon with highest prevalence of wasting 0-59 months children, the municipality fell on the second spot.

Ms. Mary Emerene Pingol and Ms. Ma. Jhonnadelle Ritz H. Castillo of NNC Calabarzon, together with Mr. Allan B. Valencia, District Nutrition Program Coordinator of Quezon Province, conducted a meeting with the Hon. Mayor Florabelle U. Yap, of San Narciso, Quezon on November 20, 2019 for the expansion of LNEWS-FNS in San Narciso. The municipal nutrition situation was presented and a short background of the proposed project. Mayor Yap accepted the proposal and scheduled the consultative workshop and household data collectors training on December 2019.

LNEWS-FNS aims to establish a system that monitors and detects impending crisis related to food and nutrition insecurity and helps prevent further deterioration of food and nutrition insecurity at the local level.

QUEZON CITY, Nov. 22-- The National Nutrition Council (NNC) CaLaBaRZon, in partnership with the Regional Sub-Committee on Nutrition, conducted the Joint Meeting of the Regional Sub-Committee on Nutrition (RSCN), Regional Nutrition Cluster (RNC) and Regional Bantay Asin Task Force (RBATF) series 2019 at the Microtel Inn & Suites, Acropolis, Quezon City.

Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator (RNPC) Carina Z. Santiago presided the meeting. Two (2) resolutions were presented and approved, (1) RSCN-SCSD Resolution No. 1, Series 2019 “Enjoining the Local Government Units in CaLaBaRZon to Support the Implementation of RA 11148 or the First 1000 Days Law” and (2) RSCN-SCSD Resolution No. 2, Series 2019 “Adopting the National Nutrition Council Policy on Fad Diets”.

cnn4aTACLOBAN CITY, Oct. 26-- The Communicators’ Network for Nutrition in Region IV-A (CNN-4A) has successfully conducted its third Technical Exchange this time with Harmonized Initiatives of Media for the Spread of Good Nutrition in Region 8 (HIMSoG-8) on October 24-26, 2019 in Tacloban City.

The activity primarily aimed to learn the best practices on nutrition of both media organizations which have been an able ally of the National Nutrition Council in spreading good nutrition in their respective regions. The undertaking was jointly conducted through the cooperation of both Regional Nutrition Program Coordinators, Ms. Carina Z. Santiago of Region 4A and Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo Jr. of Region 8.

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal, Oct. 28-- The National Nutrition Council CaLaBaRZon, in partnership with the City Government of Antipolo and the District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators’ Association of the Philippines (D/CNPCAP) - CaLaBaRZon Chapter conducted the D/CNPCAP Calabarzon General Assembly at the Victory Mall, Antipolo City. A total of 29 district/city nutrition program coordinators attended the said activity.

Ms. Marietta D. Dogelio, President of DCNPCAP-Calabarzon, shared the highlights of the 7th DCNPCAP National Conference held in Baguio City and the accomplishments done by the organization during her 2-year term. Meanwhile, Ms. Perlita Castrillo, Treasurer of DCNPCAP Calabarzon, reported the status of funding of the organization.

rnacMUNTINLUPA CITY, Oct. 24-- As an annual event of the National Nutrition Council (NNC) – Calabarzon to honor and give due recognition to outstanding Local Government Units (LGU) and Local Nutrition Workers (LNW) in the field of nutrition in the region, the 2019 Calabarzon Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) was held last 23 October 2019 at Acacia Hotel, Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

Around 300 guests and awardees attended the event, who were welcomed by Assistant Regional Director Dr. Paula Paz M. Sydiongco of the Department of Health (DOH) – Calabarzon, in behalf of Regional Director and Regional Sub-Committee on Nutrition (RSCN) Chair Dr. Eduardo C. Janairo. The RNAC was graced by the presence of NNC Executive Director Dr. Azucena M. Dayanghirang as the Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker. In her message, she encouraged all the LGUs and LNWs to scale up the implementation of PPAN nutrition interventions and sustain their gains.

MANILA, Nov. 15-- As part of the LGU Mobilization Strategy, the National Nutrition Council CaLaBaRZon conducted a series of Workshops on Integrating Nutrition in Local Development Plans and Local Development Investment Plans for the Provinces, Cities and Municipalities of the region. Four batches of training were conducted on October 7-11, October 14-18, November 4-8 and November 11-15, 2019 held in Lucena City and Metro Manila, respectively. A total of 181 participated in the workshops composed of Nutrition Action Officers, Health Officers, Budget Officers and Planning and Development Officers.

The 9-sessioned workshop were facilitated by NNC CaLaBaRZon technical staff led by RNPC Carina Z. Santiago; Consultants and Associates from NNC-NI-UNICEF and AlCanz International, Mr. Cecilio L. Adorna, Ms. Marissa Navales and Ms. Karla Laqui; NNC Nutrition Policy and Planning Division (NPPD) staff, NO IV Mr. Reginaldo T. Guillen and NO II Ms. Jesel Bagos and; trained District Nutrition Program Coordinators of Quezon Province, Mr. Nigel John Imperial, Mr. Allan B. Valencia and Ms. Joan Maricel Decena.
