Last February, there were a total of 250 pregnant women recipients in Baras, Rizal during the launching of NNC’s second batch of the Dietary Supplementation Program (DSP).
The DSP Season 2 was successfully initiated with the support of Baras Mayor Kathrine Robles, Dr. Allen Matignas-Malabanan (MHO/MNAO), Barangay Pinugay Chairman Jofre R. Seclot, and the BNS’s of Barangay Pinugay led by Mr. Michael Leonido.

Sa gitna ng maraming paghamon ng pandemya, ang konsepto ng community pantry na “Magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, kumuha batay sa pangangailangan” ay naging inspirasyon ng iba’t ibang lalawigan sa Calabarzon -- upang makapag bahagi ng mga libreng gulay, prutas, bigas, de lata, itlog, face mask, alcohol at iba pa, sa kani kanilang mga komunidad batay sa pangangailangan.
Ang community pantry na ito ay nagpapakita ng likas na ugali ng Pilipino na makabayan, mapagmalasakit, mapagbigay at matulungin sa kapwa.

CALAMBA CITY – Twenty local chief executives (LCEs) from Quezon Province expressed their all-out support for the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 by wearing the PPAN advocacy jacket with the caption “#MayorforPPAN” which they recently posted on FB. Indicated in the other side of their jackets are the phrase “End all forms of malnutrition” -- the objective of the PPAN 2017-2022.

Naging isang mabunga at mabiyayang talakayan ang naganap nang marinig ang kalalagayan ng ating mga kasamahang katutubo at Community Nutrition Implementers (CNI) sa ginanap na online “Focus Group Discussion (FGD)” o talakayan ukol sa “PMNP” o “KUMAIN Project” noong Abril 12 at 14 sa Probinsya ng Quezon.
Ang pagsasagawa ng FGD ng PMNP (o Philippine Multi-sectoral Nutrition Project) ay pinangunahan ng tagapagpadaloy na si Edward Paglinawan (NO II), sa gabay at tulong ni Ms. Carina Santiago, NNC Calabarzon RNPC.

A total of 1,250 pregnant women of San Mateo, Rizal and Rodriguez, Rizal will soon be availing of the upcoming “Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program” for malnourished pregnant women.
The program specifically intended for the implementation of the Early Childhood Care and Development Program in the First 1000 Days (ECCD F1K) to prevent child stunting, is spearheaded by the National Nutrition Council in collaboration with the Interagency Task Force on Zero Hunger. Earlier, coordination meetings were conducted by Ms. Carina Santiago (RNPC), together with Ms. Ma. Jhonnadelle Ritz Castillo and Ms. Mary Emerene Pingo (the Provincial Nutrition Coordinators, PNC of Rizal) with the LGUs of San Mateo and Rodriguez to discuss and plan the specifics of the program.

After the temporary closure of non-essential establishments in NCR, unemployment rate and food insecurity were elevated -- particularly in Cavite, Laguna and Rizal provinces. The provinces have been placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to the recent surge of COVID-19 cases. In effect, food budget are directly affecting food quality choices in families affected by the lockdown.
To determine the impact of the current situation, an interview was conducted with Ms. Agnes Gadaza, one of the beneficiaries of the second tranche of SAP in Barangay Prinza, Teresa, Rizal. She said, “Efficient food budgeting is crucial in this time of crisis and it is important to purchase highly nutritious food for all the members of the family to stay healthy.
