The said nutrition intervention had covered three (3) of their barangays (Brgy. Bagumbyan, Brgy. La Esperanza, Brgy. Damawato) prioritizing children under five, pregnant and lactating women, senior citizens and frontliners.

KIDAPAWAN CITY, Cotabato Province, April 17 (PIA)- The city government here started yesterday the implementation of the ‘Market Market sa Barangay’, a mobile market which serves as a venue for community quarantine-affected residents of the city.

Yesterday, residents of Barangay San Isidro and neighboring areas flocked to the barangay covered court to purchase basic food commodities such as rice, meat, fruits, vegetables, among others.

Market Wheels of HopeSince the Enhanced Community Quarantine was extended, the DA RFO XII, BFAR, NMIS together with the Local Government Units in the region came up to an initiative of a mobile palengke which is called “Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita on Wheels”. It gives opportunity to every individual in the region to purchase fresh and cheaper foods such as vegetables, meats, and fruits at different designated areas assigned by their Local Government. This can help the farmers to sell and promote their products as well as making it more convenient for consumers since the market is being mobilized in their area.

By this initiative, those people who are far from the town proper especially those who lived in the barangays and has a difficulty in travelling to the market (since public transportations were suspended) were given a chance to purchase their needs to survive daily. The LGU strictly secures social distancing and wearing of face mask in the area, which will help slow the spread of the virus especially from asymptomatic people or people who do not show any symptom of being infected with the virus. The mobile palengke will continue its business based on the schedule in the different areas in the region. The “Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita on Wheels” starts at 9:00 am to 5:00 pm which passes through different cluster barangays in each LGU.

Presentation2 1The National Nutrition Council issued the “Nutrition Cluster Advisory No. 1 series of 2020; Guidelines/advisories for actions of local nutrition cluster for affected groups of COVID-19 some of which are the following: NNC CoViD 19 Advisory No. 1- Promote good nutrition by emphasizing to the general public the importance of eating a variety of nutritious foods consistent with the Ten Kumainments.

LGUs are recommended to provide food packs with fruits and or vegetables to their constituents, locally produced if available. NNC CoViD 19 Advisory No.2 states that in providing assistance, prioritize cities/municipalities and barangays with high rates of undernutrition. This is because pre-school children who are already undernourished before the pandemic occur, are more vulnerable to acquire another illnesses.

antipas COTABATO PROVINCE- As the threat of COVID-19 looms, LGUs’ efforts were also inexorable not only in flattening the curve of cases but as well as in alleviating the problems to at least try to ease a bit of the burden of their respective constituents brought by the lockdown and the pandemic crisis.

In response to COVID-19, the Local Government Unit of Antipas of Cotabato Province had established Food Ration Stations (FRSs) in 101 Puroks of their 13 Barangays last April 8, 2020. Also known as the Bayanihan Sandok Project, this local initiative aims to provide access to their constituents in the grass roots level of free foods such as "CHAMPORADO, ARROZCALDO/LUGAW, and BINIGNIT", prioritizing the vulnerable groups such as the malnourished children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and pregnant women.

The advent of this initiative was because of the overwhelming donations from the LGU’s legislators (SB Antipas) to boot, the burning passion of volunteers such as the Barangay Nutrition Scholars/Health workers, Barangay Captains, purok leaders and others to extend help in their municipality.
