30 April 2015, Koronadal City - Presidential Decree No. 1569 “Strengthening The Barangay Nutrition Program By Providing For A Barangay Nutrition Scholar In Every Barangay, Providing Funds Therefore And For Other Purposes“. Thirty Seven (37) years ago, the Government focused its development program on country side development most especially on the implementation of the quality of life in every barangay in the country and a part of it was alleviate malnutrition cases in the country. Therefore, Barangay Nutrition Scholar was born. Section 2 of the PD 1569 states that the barangay nutrition scholar shall be a barangay based volunteer worker responsible for delivering nutrition services and other related activities such as community health, backyard food production, environmental sanitation, culture, mental feeding, and family planning to the barangay.
The National Nutrition Council Region 12 together with the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) conducted its first wave of evaluation among BNSs in the Region for this year. The evaluation started on April 8, 2015 and will end on June 3, 2015. RNET is looking forward for a BNS who have shown an exemplary performance, accomplishments and contributions to nutrition program implementation in their barangays by simply performing their basic task such as caring for the malnourished, mobilizing the community, linkage-building, informing the community on scheduled immunization, organizing mothers’ class or community nutrition education, providing nutrition counseling services especially on exclusive breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding through home visits, promotion of home or community food gardens, and formulation of their Barangay Nutrition Action Plan.

30 April 2015, Koronadal City - The National Nutrition Council conducted a 3-day Hands-On Training on Community Radio Broadcasting held at Tboli and Tupi South Cotabato on April 13–15, 2015 and April 16-18, 2015 respectively.
The purpose of the said training was for the participants to be well informed and be guided on how to deliver news efficiently and to discuss the rules and policies of this Nutriskwela Community Radio Station. About 100 participants from the different sectors of Tboli and Tupi municipalities actively joined and gained knowledge on administrating and managing a radio station.
The trainers namely, Mr. Francisco Flores, Mr. Mario Garcia, Mr. Andy Vital and Mackay Quadra from the MQ Media Zone Production tackled the following topics; Overview of Nutrition and the Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program, Community Radio: History, objects, strategies, voice and anchoring basics, writing for radio and field reporting, production basics, basic sound editing, equipment maintenance and trouble shooting, effective interviewing and add-libbing Tips, and designing a program radio for radio.
After the conduct of hands-on training, the two community radio stations have their inaugural broadcast as the National Telecommunications Commission has granted the NNC the necessary licenses to operate the stations. The newly put-up radio stations, Radyo Katribu 103.3 Mhz in Tboli and Radyo Kahiusa 99.3 Mhz in Tupi were now on air with the capacity of 100-200 watts serving their constituents which covers 15 barangays of Tupi and 25 barangays in Tboli.

March 30, 2015, General Santos City - After series of orientation, consultative-workshop, and training for household enumerators and municipal EWS team, the Municipality of T’boli is now ready to establish Early Warning System on Food and Nutrition Security (EWS-FNS). The purpose of establishing Early Warning System is to enable the community to identify and address different problems that affect the ability of a community and households to obtain sufficient foods relative to their needs.
To further prepare the team on EWS-FNS, training for household level enumerators and municipal EWS team was conducted on March 17–18, 2015 and March 19–20, 2015 respectively held at Tierra Montana Hotel, Gen. Santos City.
On the household level training, the Rural Health Midwives, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, and Barangay Health Workers from five sentinel barangays were trained on how to collect the primary data needed for decision-making. They were also oriented on how to properly conduct weight and height taking.

General Santos City, March 31, 2015 - Looking Beyond, Moving Forward and Working hand on hand to strengthen and build up a well nourished SOCCKSARGEN, we’ll work together to reach our goal.
The 1st Quarter Regional Nutrition Committee and Regional Nutrition Cluster Meeting were successfully conducted last March 27, 2015. The said meeting was presided by Assistant Regional Director of the Department of Health, Dr. Francisco V. Mateo. There were 12 members of the RNC coming from the various Regional Line Agencies which contributed to the success of the meeting and the RNC secretariat headed by NPC Arceli M. Latonio.
The Regional Nutrition Situation and the Updated Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition were presented to serve directive and guide for the committee members for further planning and assessment. Realizing the current Nutritional Status of the Region, The RNC members expressed great desire and commitment in developing more interventional programs/projects as well as firm implementation of these to address the nutrition situation in the region as well as to reach the Millennium Development Goal Targets.

Koronadal City - National Nutrition Council 12 had successfully conducted the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) – Plan Implementation and Review (PIR) Workshop last March 11-12, 2015 at Casa Gemma Hotel and Restaurant, Koronadal City.
Malnutrition in any forms has been a growing problem in the region and even in the country. The National and Local Government has formulated several nutrition interventions, programs and projects just to combat the drastic increase of malnutrition cases around the country and assessment of the local PPAN Implementation was made mainly to evaluate and validate the programs which have made a great impact towards hunger and malnutrition prevention. The PPAN PIR was made then to determine whether those programs and projects were implemented as planned and if the resources were utilized efficiently.
A workshop was conducted wherein participants presented the programs and projects planned in 2014 and identified the facilitating and hindering factors that affect in implementing the said nutrition program as well their recommended actions to achieve their goal towards nutrition. The NAOs also reported their good practices that contributed to good results in mitigating malnutrition.
