ro12 10kumainmentslaunching2014October 30, 2014- Koronadal City- The National Nutrition Council Region XII launched the popular version of the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos- the Ten Kumainments last October 29, 2014 at the Convention Center, The Farm @ Carpenter Hill, in Koronadal City.

Guest/delegates/participants present during the launching includes the LGU awardees, Local Chief Executives and/or representatives, Barangay Nutrition Scholar, BNC members, Nutrition Action Officers, City/ District Nutrition Program Coordinators, Regional Directors and employees of the regional line agencies, particularly RNC and RNET members, and those agencies who joined various contests during the nutrition month celebration, representatives from the academe, ICON members, media partners and various nutrition stakeholders.

Ms. Gladys Mae S. Fernandez then presented the 10 Kumainments of which she emphasized that it is a popularized versions of the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos, which aims to promote a healthy lifestyle among Filipinos and to address and prevent malnutrition and diet-related, non-communicable diseases such as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
She also stressed that the 10 Kumainments was made to give more concise guideline and phrases that can be immediately grasp or followed by the regular citizens to improve their nutritional status. Through the 10 easy to comprehend guidelines, individuals are being encouraged to eat the right foods, exercise right and pursue a healthy lifestyle. She also discussed and explained the rationale why the Ten Kumainments was launched and was latter shown the video clip to appreciate its importance.
The unveiling followed which was led by the Hon. Governor, Daisy P. Avance- Fuentes together with the Regional Director of the Department of Health, Assistant Regional Director of NEDA XII, Koronadal City Councilor Hon. Oscar .Pagunsan, and RNPC Latonio. The unveiling revealed the Ten Kumainments and the iconic Mang Moi Standee of which the guests and participants loved to take photos with.

bro12 Region-XII iycf tantanganNovember 10, 2014- Koronadal City. After the success of the first four Batches of the Training of Barangay Community Mobilizers and Peers Counselors on Infant and young Child Feeding Program held on the first quarter of 2014, the National Nutrition Council XII once again conducted another batches of said training course last October to November 7, 2014. With the assistance of the Provincial Nutrition Action Officers of the four provinces in identifying model barangays, The NNC validated and approved the identified barangays as model and be a recipient of NNC funded 4 day live-out training for community mobilizers and peer counselors. The four identified target barangays namely: New Iloilo, Tantangan, South Cotabato, Kalawag 1, Isulan Sultan Kudarat, Tambilil, Kiamba, Sarangani, and San Isidro, Midsayap, Cotabato.

The said training aims to train the community mobilizers and peer counselors on mobilizing community support for IYCF program. The barangay chairperson, barangay councilor on health, school principal, senior citizen, rural health midwife, day care worker, SK representative, women’s group representative, community-based organization, purok leaders, barangay health workers, barangay nutrition scholars, mother leader, and other identified IYCF peer counselors were the identified participants. Each participant underwent the four parts of the training course: Part 1. Mobilizing Community Support for IYCF; Part 2. IYCF Counselling with Practical Session; Part 3. Guidelines on Follow-up-After Training; and Part 4. Re-entry Planning.

NNC XII headed by Ms. Arceli M. Latonio and its staff facilitated and monitored the activity together with the identified provincial and municipal IYCF trainers. At the end of the training, new ICYF peer counselors are expected to also sourced out funds to support and sustain activities identified in mobilizing community support for IYCF.

Currently, Region XII has a total of eight (8) model barangays who were trained on Community Mobilizers and Peer Counselors on Infant and young Child Feeding Program. Sustaining the Infant and young child feeding program will indeed create a well-nourished and healthy community. The utmost commitment of the barangay chairpersons and all the participants in pursuing their pledge to support the Infant and Young Child Feeding programs will ensure a well developed community.

Its presence in the food that we take will greatly contribute to the normal functioning of the thyroid gland as well as for the production of thyroid hormones. Having an adequate intake of iodine will prevent existence of physical and intellectual disability called cretinism and with the alarming increased of Iodine Deficiency Disorder cases in the Philippines, the Local Monitoring of ASIN teams was organized and was called then Regional Bantay Asin Task Force.

On January 22-23, 2015 at Bayview Park Hotel, Manila, the National Conference of Regional Bantay Asin Task Force was conducted. The conference was organized mainly to generate relevant and appropriate salt iodization initiatives adopted in the regions and experiences learned that will be useful in some other Regions and also to benchmark inputs for a stronger linkages and connection of the National and Local initiatives. The conference was attended by various participants coming from the different agencies and industries such as representatives from the Salt Industries, Members of Regional Bantay Asin Task Force and NSIP-TWG, National Nutrition Council, Department of Health, Food and Drug Administration and UNICEF.

ro12 jointdcnpandnaosKoronadal City - Ensuring better nutrition implementation through well informed workers, the National Nutrition Council XII conducted a joint meeting of the provincial, city and municipal nutrition action officers and the district and city nutrition program coordinators held on November 20-21, 2014 at Samahang Nayon Hotel, Koronadal City. This is the first time that the municipal nutrition action officers joined P/CNAOs and DCNPCs meeting. The said activity aims to update and identify strategic interventions and innovations to provide quality nutrition services.

During the meeting, the result of the PGN monitoring was presented. To further assess the status of PGN implementation, NO III Gladys Mae S. Fernandez moderated the workshop identifying its deterring and facilitating factors. Also, a pre-program implementation review (PIR) was also conducted to ensure that various indicators and issues will be determined in preparation for the program implementation review.

ro12 tboli februaryKoronadal City – T’boli, South Cotabato is one of the targeted municipalities among the 10 municipalities in the Philippines for the expansion phase of Early Warning System on Food and Nutrition Security (EWS-FNS).
Mayor Dibu S. Tuan was thankful and expressed to support this endeavor which he believed will help alleviate food and nutrition insecurity in the municipality. T’boli was included for the following reasons: ranked 6th with high prevalence of underweight preschool children in the region and also prone to natural disasters and other calamities which both affect the food and nutrition security situation.

On February 9-11, 2015, an orientation and consultative workshop was conducted at T’boli, South Cotabato facilitated by Ms. Alona Teo, Nutrition Officer II of the Nutrition Surveillance Division of National Nutrition Council- Central Office. She was assisted by RNPC Arceli M. Latonio and two technical staff of NNC XII

The two and a half days orientation and consultative workshop was participated by the different heads of offices, BNS, BHW, SB members and some NGO partners in the municipality of T’boli. The workshop aims to help familiarize the EWS-FNS team on the existing programs, data and monitoring systems from the various agencies/offices which will be used as sources of information.

ro12 ngoforum 2014Koronadal City - To strengthen GO-NGO partnership in scaling up nutrition in SOCCSKSARGEN, the National Nutrition Council XII conducted the Regional NGO Forum on December 4, 2014 held at The Farm, Carpenter Hill, Koronadal City. The forum aims to activate, nurture, sustain and scale up the collaboration with NGOs for more effective nutrition program. NNC XII identified Save the Children Mindanao Program Office as the co-convener of the forum, wherein Dr. Amado Parawan, Health and Nutrition Advisor of Save the Children, acted as one of the moderators during the open forum.

Among the invited NGOs existing in SOCCSKSARGEN area, eight (8) different Non-Government Organizations such as World Food Programme, MAHINTANA Foundation, RD Foundation, GENTUD Foundation of World Vision, Health Organization for Mindanao, Muslim Youth Religious Organization Inc., International Care Ministries Foundation Incorporated and Save the Children Mindanao Program Office attended the said forum. Also present were the Regional Nutrition Committee Members, LGUs and representative from the Academe.
