RNAC 2019The National Nutrition Council XII had once again awarded nutrition workers for their exemplary community service in the field of nutrition last November 29, 2019 at The Farm @ Carpenter Hill, Koronadal City.


A total of 220 guests with the presence of NNC Executive Director III, Dr. Azucena M. Dayanghirang, MCH, CESE, which served as the keynote speaker of the event, Mayor Eliordo Ogena of Koronadal City, Mayor Romeo Tamayo of Tupi, South Cotabato and Dr.Glecy Fornan, SB member of Sultan Kudarat, graced the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony.

NUTCLUSTER ARTICLE SOCCSKSARGEN– In response to the series of strong earthquakes that had recently struck Cotabato Province, (Oct 16, 29 and 31,2019) the Regional Nutrition Cluster was activated to meet the nutritional needs of the individuals especially the most vulnerable groups, particularly children under five years of age, pregnant and lactating women, elderlies and those internally displaced people especially with debilitating diseases.

BEST KITCHEN OCTOBER ARTICLE SOCCSKSARGEN---The National Nutritional Council XII, through the initiative of Regional Nutrition Committee, forefronts contest for the first Best Kitchen garden in the workplace. The said contest is in line with the 2019 Nutrition Month theme, “Kumain ng wasto at maging aktibo…push natin ‘to!” which aims to promote the practice of healthy diet, increased physical activity, and reduced sedentary behavior through activities of daily living among individuals and families.

The search for the Best Kitchen garden in the workplace is open to all Regional Line Agencies. Moreover, six (6) agencies (DOLE, NCIP, DAR, DOH, BJMP and DILG) had joined and been evaluated from September through 2nd week of October.

POLIO ARTICLE

The Philippines was declared as polio-free country for nineteen years by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2000. Last September 19, 2019, a National Polio Outbreak was announced by Secretary of Health, Francisco T. Duque III, MD, MSc. after they have found-out one positive case of the disease in Lanao del Sur and after environmental samples from Davao and Manila were tested positive.


Poliomyelitis is a highly infectious viral disease, which mainly affects children under 5 years of age. Man is the only natural host for polio virus, thus, transmitted by person-to-person spread mainly through the fecal to oral route or by contaminated water and food that multiplies in the intestine, from where it can invade the nervous system and can cause paralysis.

The National Nutrition Council XII conducted the 1st batch of the workshop on Integrating Nutrition in the PDPFP, CDP and LDIP last September 23-27, 2019 at East Asia Royale Hotel, General Santos City.

The workshop was attended by a total of one hundred seven (107) participants composed of Nutrition Action Officers, Health Officers along with their Planning, Budget and/or Agriculture Officers coming from Provincial and Municipal LGUs of South Cotabato, Cotabato Province and cities of Koronadal, General Santos and Kidapawan.

The workshop included nine (9) sessions, from discussing on why invest in nutrition; review of existing documents on Provincial/ Municipal/ City plans and budgets; formulating the nutrition situation analysis; inclusion of nutrition in the priority development challenges; crafting the PPAN-based program at the provincial and LGU level; putting together the 2020-2022 Local Nutrition Action Plan; preparing the team to advocate the case for nutrition across sectors (role play); re-entry planning; and summary and closing respectively.

RBATF OCTOBER The National Nutrition Council XII facilitated the conduct of the 2nd Regional Bantay Asin Task Force meeting held at Casa Rafael, General Santos City last October 23, 2019. The meeting was attended by seven (7) agencies as follows: Department of Health (DOH), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and Sanitary Inspectors of General Santos City.


In support to the implementation of the Food Fortification Law, the task force concurred to formulate new MOA between the FDA, NNC, DOST and LGU-Gensan which will be discussed on the next meeting. Secretariat were tasked to remind Dr. Rochelle Oco, the City Health Officer and the CNAO to convene the Local Bantay Asin Task Force of General Santos City before the formulation of the new MOA.
