The National Nutrition Council recognizes two local government units from region XII, South Cotabato Province and municipality of Malungon from Sarangani for their excellent performance on nutrition program implementation. The National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony was held at Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City on December 13, 2016.
Province of South Cotabato bagged the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) for having won the Green Banner Award for three consecutive years. Vice-Governor Vicente De Jesus represented Governor Daisy Avance-Fuentes together with PNAO Maria D. Uy and two members of PNC accepted the trophy and cash award amounting to P500,000.00.

Koronadal City-The National Nutrition Council XII had undergone 3rd Cycle of Internal Quality Audit (IQA) last November 28-29, 2016. Members of the IQA Team coming from NNC Central office were composed of Ms. Maybelle T. Aspeli- Administrative Officer III, Mr. Serapio D. Camarines-Administrative Officer V and Ms. Ellen Ruth Abella, Nutrition Officer IV, as their Audit Team leader.
The audit aims to: a) verify corrective actions undertaken based on findings in previous audit b) determine the adequacy and effectiveness of the Quality Management Systems (QMS) documentation and implementation of the 7 Core Process (Nutrition Policy Analysis, Nutrition Policy Formulation, Nutrition Planning, Nutrition Program Formulation, Public Information and Communication, Nutrition Surveillance, Monitoring and Evaluation and Nutrition Capacity Development), c) determine the adequacy and effectiveness of QMS documentation and implementation of the Support Services covering Records and Documentation Management, Procurement of Goods and Services and Financial Resources Management, d) determine areas for improvement and e) determine readiness of the NNC Regional Office XII for external audit.

27 October 2016-The National Nutrition Council XII holds Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony at The Farm @ Carpenter Hill, Koronadal City to recognize local government units, regional line agencies, barangay nutrition scholars and individuals who did exemplary performances in battling malnutrition in the region.
The Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony serves as the culminating event of the 2015 Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) and the Search for the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar undertaken by the National Nutrition Council – SOCCSKSARGEN through the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team which also provided venue to recognize the winners during the Nutrition Month Activities.
Around 230 individuals attended the ceremony which is composed of some Local Chief Executives, representatives from various Regional Line Agencies, Regional Nutrition Committee members, Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team, Nutrition Action Officers and Nutrition Program Coordinators, BNS Federation presidents and this year’s awardees. Moreover, the Province of South Cotabato was conferred with the Green Banner Award in the region. The awarding ceremony was also highlighted by the presence of South Cotabato’s Vice Governor, Hon. Vicente De Jesus who received the award in behalf of Gov. Daisy Avance-Fuentes. Recipients of other awards such as the Municipal Green Banner Awardees or Outstanding Municipality in the province were also honored, to wit: Municipality of Pigcawayan (Cotabato Province), Municipality of Kiamba (Sarangani Province) and Municipality of Polomolok (South Cotabato).

South Cotabato Provincial Governor Daisy P. Avance Fuentes tackled the Provincial Government’s accomplishments in ensuring the survival, developmental, protection and participation rights of children as she delivered her State of the Children Address (SOCHA) at Koronadal National Comprehensive High School (KNCHS), Koronadal City last November 28.
Among the highlights of her speech were the province’s accomplishment in rehabilitating wasted and severely wasted children to their normal nutritional condition and the rise in the province’s rate on facility based delivery and skilled birth attendants to 89% compared to 2014’s 87% rate.
She also highlighted the province’s additional half-way house projects for pregnant women, Bahay ni Nanay, in the municipalities of Polomolok, Surallah and T’boli.
Fuentes, in her speech, vowed to strengthen the province’s programs, projects and activities to reduce the number of fatality among pregnant women, and increase the people’s awareness, particularly of mothers, to avail of the basic services for them and their children. She also vowed to improve the capabilities of health workers.
Programs and activities that intend to protect children such as the strengthening of the province’s Denounce VAWC Advocates Defend Violence Free Family Program (DAD-VFF), forums to clarify laws that pertain to the protection of children and initiatives to help children in conflict with the law were also emphasized.

Koronadal City, South Cotabato – The National Nutrition Council (NNC) XII facilitated the conduct of Regional Bantay Asin Task Force (RBATF) XII meeting on October 12, 2016 at The Farm, Koronadal City to discuss the result of the Salt Monitoring activities in February and September, 2016 and the updates on food fortification in the region.
The RBATF is the monitoring arm in the implementation of Republic Act No. 8172, Series of 1995, an Act Promoting Salt Iodization Nationwide. Iodine Deficiency is a major health problem of the Filipino which, if not addressed, will impact in mental and physical development of a person. Consumers are encouraged to patronize salt product bearing the quality seal of “Saktong Iodine sa Asin” in their packaging.
Salt Monitoring Findings/Observations
The monitoring was conducted randomly to check if salt sold in the market contained at least 30-70 ppm of iodine micro-nutrient. In February 2016, the RBATF visited various public markets, sari-sari stores and malls in Sarangani Province and General Santos City. Of the nine (9) stores monitored in Sarangani Province, only two (2) sellers passed the required standard that sold Master Chef brand (usually sold in “takal”). While in General Santos City, there were thirteen (13) sellers visited. It was found out that those sold in malls has the required iodine content in salt while those in public markets/sari-sari stores had less or below the required iodine content.

Koronadal City—The Provincial Government of South Cotabato recognized the unwavering efforts of the nutrition program’s unsung heroes through the 20th Barangay Nutrition Scholars Congress at Phil Florencia Sea Side Beach in Maasim, Sarangani Province.
Ana Uy, Provincial Nutrition Action Officer, said BNS were treated with fun-filled and God-centered three-day event.
“We invited motivational speaker from the Catholic Church to relive the spirit of unity and love of work among our BNS,” Uy said, inculcating the importance of love of God to serve the community with a heart.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Government through the Provincial Nutrition Awards acknowledge the untiring works of BNS in every towns.
